Rina flagged the bartender and he made his way to the table with a bottle. The grinning young girl slipped the bartender coin to cover everyone's drinks, but told the bartender the pink-haired boy should have water instead and Ilana smirked.
"Yes," the boy said. "I realize my chances aren't looking so good, but I know my way around drunk or not."
Ilana raised a brow at him. She pondered for a moment and said, "You're not exactly helping your case here. First and foremost, who are you? Second, why are you drunk?"
Ilana leaned back in her seat waiting for a response. Kid better have a damn good reason for showing up for this kind of job drunk.

Helios looked at the water, then gave the girl a dirty look, who does she think she is telling him what he should drink, he thought of what to say in his defense so that he might have a chance at the job.
"I'm Helios Lauren Hamilton and I's a bit nervous so, I had a few too many," he said hoping this was good enough, the odds are not in his favor.

Jace leaned back and finally allowed Ilana to explain everything. He knew when he asked that there wouldn't be a guarantee of safety, there never was in this business. Before JAce could plunder on a familiar and welcoming face walked into the bar.
"Jay! I am glad to see you safe and sound."
Greeting Jay was short lived as the pink haired fella got up and immediately face planted into the ground. Tilting his head confused towards the lad as he picked himself up off the floor. His heart starting to race as he approached the group. Nudging Ilana and leaning in to her.
"I was not being serious about starting a new career in public relations." Muttering quietly to the Captain.
As the guy spoke slurring his words and entirely unsteady of his feet, Jace looked past him and noticed a tiny girl almost gliding across the floor towards the group before she plopped down in a chair. As a wonderful offer of charity of drinks for the table Jace shrugged. His guess was either a rich core girl trying to escape the core, who can blame anyone, or someone wishing to start grand adventures and being too naive to know the dangers. Remaining stoic to the girl he waved the bartender to give him two instead of one hopefully the girl wouldn't notice, but he had the creds to slip her back if she did.
Jace had been all but focused on his amber liquid and the dilemma they had before them on the cargo. Zoning back in he looked over to Rina nabbing a pen from Ilana he wrote quietly on one of the napkins and sliding it to Rina. "What exactly did you have in mind for the cargo?"
Hearing the rambling still go on Jace spoke up finally.
"D'un Yi Shai, bai tuo, uhn jin tee dien," Jace said calmly as he went from speaking to the guy to looking towards Ilana.
"He may seem moon brained, but I could use the help. Looking at the specs of the ship its slower than the Chainless, meaning the maneuverability will depend greatly on the pilots focus, and any extra help the mechanic can give. It's not impossible, but allowing someone to navigate will clear me up. If he can stay sober when I need him. My vote is give him a shot or jettison him out if need be or if you have to be nice drop him on the first goram planet we come to after we decide."
Smiling he turned to the girl that hadn't made a fool of themselves. Maybe he was better at this public relations go shi than he thought. He was happy to see Jay back with the crew though. He wondered whatever happened to the members who didn't return.
"So, xiao mei mei. First thank you for the drinks, but what brings you to our little shindig?"
----- Chinese Phrases
D'un Yi Shai - Wait, hold on a second
Bai tuo, uhn jin tee dien - we will enjoy your silence now
go shi - shit
xiao mei mei - young lady, little miss

Zoning back in, he looked over to Rina; nabbing a pen from Ilana, he wrote quietly on one of the napkins and sliding it to Rina. "What exactly did you have in mind for the cargo?" If Rina saw the message, she didn't immediately give any indication that she'd had. Instead, she pinned the napkin with her forefinger to the table and spun it clockwise and counterclockwise with her fingers as if impatient for her drink to arrive. She sat with her chin cupped in her free hand, her elbow planted on the scarred tabletop, and twtiched a frown at him. The napkin started to shred under her short-clipped nails and she balled it up and shoved it into her pocket. If Jace was good at reading between the lines, her message was clear: Not here. Not now. And perhaps, just perhaps, he'd get the impression that she thought he was being a little too obvious about asking than was safe. No telling who was watching them.

“Glad you reached out,” Jay countered toward Ilana, sitting down.
Jace welcomed him as well, saying, "Jay! I am glad to see you safe and sound.” Jay grinned in response, patting him on the shoulder and responding, “Same to you, Jace. It sure gets boring, doesn’t it?”
Jay’s nose was in his drink when he caught Pink Hair stumbling on his way to the table. Jay laughed into his drink, almost inhaling his gin sending him into a minor coughing fit. He turned away to hack the alcohol out of his lungs before swiftly turning back to the table. By then, they were joined by two newbies – Pink Hair, asking if they needed a navigator, and another woman offering to buy drinks for the table.
Jay raised his hand to the bartender for another round. He smiled and said a quick, “Hey, thanks!” toward the new girl.
He watched Ilana and Pink Hair’s interaction with some amusement – clearly this kid hadn’t much experience in the way of finding a crew. He introduced himself as Helios; interesting name, Jay thought. He couldn’t help wondering if, given the boy’s fashion and flamboyancy, there was a certain sly edge about him. Not that Jay was one to assume; thinking himself an intelligent individual, he knew eccentricity and slyness didn’t always share the same bed, especially given his own lack of “color,” as it were. Still, the thought of having something in common with a new crew-member was a warm thought. If this person did not annoy him first, that is.
My vote is give him a shot or jettison him out if need be or if you have to be nice drop him on the first goram planet we come to after we decide." Jace added, vouching for Helios.
“I agree with Jace, I think we could give the guy a fair shot,” Jay said, then folding his hands onto the table and leaning on it. “But we should at least get to know what his – sorry, what your navigation experience is.” Jay glanced up to Helios with his last statement. It always annoyed him when people talked about him like he wasn’t there, so he didn’t want to be rude to this kid no matter how his first impression turned out.

He shot the girl a withering glare as the water was set in front of him and said, "I'm Helios Lauren Hamilton and I's a bit nervous so, I had a few too many."
"I was not being serious about starting a new career in public relations." Jace muttered softly, drawing a light-hearted chuckle from Ilana. He scribbled something on a napkin and slipped it to Rina, piquing Ilana's curiosity.
"D'un Yi Shai, bai tuo, uhn jin tee dien," Jace added and gave his vote to give the kid a chance.
Ilana decided to wait while they came to a conclusion before adding her two cents.
“I agree with Jace, I think we could give the guy a fair shot,” Jay said, then folding his hands onto the table and leaning on it. “But we should at least get to know what his – sorry, what your navigation experience is.”
Rina stayed silent on this particular matter. Ilana hadn't really expected her to weight in about that though. She didn't know her real well, but well enough to know she didn't waste words. If she had anything she felt was worth contributing, she would have, so Ilana shrugged and moved on.
"I agree with my crew. We need a navigator. But, I'm gonna need a few things from you, so have a seat. First, I need an oath that this isn't normal behavior. Don't get me wrong. We're all known to drink often enough, and I understand being a mite nervous about a job interview, but we don't make a habit of getting so drunk we can't stay on our feet either. Last time someone drank too much, I believe I chased this one here -" nodding at Jay, "- into the men's room at a bar not unlike this one." She shot a glance at Jay with a somewhat embarrassed grin.
"Second, what sort of experience do you have at this? Did you have any formal training? Or maybe apprentice with someone? I don't need a certification. Apprenticing is just as good as formal training. Sometimes it's better to be honest," Ilana said. All in all, a much more long-winded speech than she commonly made, but she was somewhat irritated that the kid showed up drunk and wanted to make sure he understood that this was serious.
"So, xiao mei mei. First thank you for the drinks, but what brings you to our little shindig?" Jace said, clearly to the tall, but clearly young girl that had invited herself to the party.
"Yes, miss. I know I put a few job listings up on the cortex. You here for one a those?" Ilana asked her.

Ivy took a sip of her drink, smiling brightly at the two that had addressed her.
"Well," she began, "I saw the job listings you posted but I'm not very good at any of those. I'd love to go with you all though, and I'd be more than willing to pay to be a passenger." She shifted in her seat, glancing between the people at the table. The pink haired man had given her a dirty look, but she didn't pay much attention. She didn't exactly want to be associated with him anyway. The man that had spoken to her seemed fairly nice, though she wasn't sure what he had called her. It didn't sound rude, so she was going to assume it wasn't. The woman seemed okay, if a little guarded. She didn't know what to make of the others, but Ivy wasn't going to rule out a friendship with anyone....
...except maybe the man with the yellow boots. Looking around the group one more time, she lights up at as she remembers something.
"Oh!" she said with an excited grin, more than a little too loud. "Do you all know a kid? A little chubby, brown hair, blue eyes?"

Helios became grateful that the two guys had said to give me a chance, he observed the group, the woman leading the conversation was obviously the captain, one of the ones vouching for him was the pilot, the other two he couldn't quite tell, but the girl buying drinks was obviously from a central planet. He thought about the woman's questions and came up with a reply
"Um well, I've had a decent bit a training since I was about 10 to when I turned 18 and no I usually don't get drunk at least on the job," he told her still a bit on edge as the central planet girl seemed a bit too friendly to trust, he pushed away the water not wanting anything she had offered, "Now, what's the name of your vessel and crew?"

"Um well, I've had a decent bit a training since I was about 10 to when I turned 18 and no I usually don't get drunk at least on the job," Helios said, clearly still nervous. He pushed away the water the girl had ordered for him and Ilana sighed inwardly. She understood the feeling behind what he'd done, but she was hoping he wasn't this stubborn all the time. He continued, "Now, what's the name of your vessel and crew?"
Pointing out each crew member in turn, Ilana said, "Jace is my second in command, Jay is our resident medic, Rina is the mechanic, I'm Ilana: the Captain, and I guess you're our new navigator. You're on probation though. I catch you drunk at the helm and you're going out the airlock. The bird's name is Eden."
Ivy took a sip of her drink, an unsettling smile crossing her face. Ilana raised a brow but let the girl speak.
"Well, I saw the job listings you posted but I'm not very good at any of those. I'd love to go with you all though, and I'd be more than willing to pay to be a passenger."
Ilana thought for a moment before answering, but before she spoke the girl had another thought. "Oh!" she said with an excited grin, more than a little too loud. "Do you all know a kid? A little chubby, brown hair, blue eyes?"
Somewhat confused, Ilana said, "Can't say that I do miss. She sighed. "Honestly, we could use the fare. If you can pay, and can produce an ident card showing that you're not underage, you're welcome to a passenger bunk. Payment will depend on whether you plan to be short term or long term. Right now, we're headed to Beylix. Payment for that would be 200 credits, or items that would equal that value. If you're wanting to just ride around the verse and see the sights for a while, it'll be 150 a month, and you can work some of that off with cooking and cleaning if you get the notion."

She laughed at Ilana's threat to the man, Helios apparently, and pulled out her ident card, handing it over to her with a grin.
"Well, I'm a fairly decent cook, and I love to bake, so I'd be happy to do some work for you all in the kitchen. I'll come with you all long-term if that's good with you," she says, passing over 130c and a bag of luxury food. "My name's Ivy, by the way."

Rina nodded to the newcomers when Ilana pointed her out and then kept her eye on the entrances, exits, and the barroom floor. Let everyone else do the meet and greet. She preferred to watch her captain's back.

“Last time someone drank too much, I believe I chased this one here -" Ilana said, nodding at Jay, "- into the men's room at a bar not unlike this one." Jay matched her look and mumbled, “Pretty sure that wasn’t the very last time,” an embarrassed laugh escaping his lips.
Helios’ response was quick – at least he had some training. Jay gave a small nod of understanding, more to himself than anyone else, then waved when Ilana introduced him with the rest of the crew.
Jay turned his attention to Ivy, wondering why she would be looking for a little boy out at the docks. He thought about asking, but decided that could wait since she would be on the ship with them.

Helios laughed nervously at the mention of being thrown out of an airlock, he didn't want to find out whether or not she was joking.
"I'll avoid getting drunk on the helm," he said taking a seat at the table, he still didn't know what to make of the crew, but the question the girl asked was a bit odd, though he thought nothing of it.

Ilana glance over the girl's ident card and, satisfied that the girl wasn't going to be reported kidnapped, she slid it back to her. 19. Jesus she looks like she's 12. Did I look that young when I first left out with Roman's crew? She thought to herself.
"I'll avoid getting drunk on the helm," Helios said.
"See that you do," she said seriously. "Alright guys. I've about had enough of this bar. I'm heading back to the ship. We're dusting off at midnight. Make sure you're there if you intend to leave this rock."
She turned to the girl and said, "Pay when you board the ship. That way if you get left, you're not out the credits."
With that, Ilana stood, nodded to her crew, and walked out of the bar.
