EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BEFORE CREATING A CHARACTER
Section One: Player Conduct
It is very important to respect your fellow role players. If you have a relatively rude character, it is understandable; But don't have out of character elements affect your play.
No God-modding. It will not be tolerated. You control your characters, and only your characters. Unless discussed through PM in terms of making an assumption that would in effect be controlling another player's character, it is absolutely not aloud.
*NOTICE: GOD-MODDING is also when a Character is invulnerable to harm. For example someone shoots them, and they post "It's just a flesh wound" and continue to move. OR if someone walks into a room with fifty men armed with machine guns and takes them down with just a knife. These are not aloud under any circumstances, and they will be spotted and you will be forced to edit when it is found.
Damage Wounds a character may acquire are determined by the GM, or by player consent. You are not aloud to say that you fire at another character, and it hits them right between the eyes. Unless the player of that character has given consent to the damage, it is up to the GM. The GM will administer damage based on the risks and advantages of both parties involved. Such could lead to a character being badly damaged, but that's how the verse' works.
Death There is also no killing of another player’s character or NPC without their consent. Like with damage, the GM gives final word on all elements of death. If appropriate you may take action to have your own character die, but such instances are very rare. For all instances where players are in combat, it's a simple thing to just understand that the GM will decide who gets hurt and how.
For all instances where you are attempting to harm another character, please refer to the GM's Guide to Action, which is in the Rules Section.
Sub Note - This is a site of many words both in and out of character. Many of these words may go over less than civil. However, nothing said here should be taken as a personal offense. We are a mixture of a number of personalities here, and swearing and mature language is frequent. As a result, you are agreeing that you yourself are a mature person, that can handle such things. We believe in free speech here, and at any time you find the conduct here not to your liking, you can leave. You are also agreeing that you will not threaten or attempt to take legal action against this site for things that you may find distasteful. At any moment you can leave the site, and that will be fine. However threats of a legal action against members of the site, will be viewed as a threat to the site itself. Again, agreeing to the rules of this site and participating in the Role Play says that you agree to these rules, that you are to understand that you are on the internet where free speech is exercised regularly, that you will not take personal offense to anything said, you will not take nor threaten legal action for anything said, and that if you cannot accept these statutes, that you can leave at any time which would be the mature thing to do.
Section Two: Graphic Language and Cursing
You all should have seen Firefly and Serenity if you are playing this RPG. Therefore, you know that violence and sexual situations are depicted. Therefore, this site is rated M - Mature.
We should all act mature and grown up here. When making a thread - or participating in a thread with mature content, such as sexual scenes, or excessive rp's of violence - please remember that you are recognizing that this site is for a Mature Audience Only.
When in character, remember that people in Firefly frequently do not swear in English, but in Chinese. There are multiple sites online, which provide a variety of phrases and their translations. Swearing in English is common, but it is recommended (though not required ) Chinese phrases be thrown in here and there.
Sub note - If you do choose to have your character speak in Chinese, you must list a 'translation' at the bottom of the post, since the other characters would know what you're saying, but the players controlling them do not.
Section Three: Spam
Advertising and one line posts are not welcome here.
That said, if you spam (advertise) on this forum outside of the designated area, you'll be banned. This is your one and only warning. If you want to advertise your website, there is an advertisement board provided here. Do not urge other members to go to other sites via OOC posts or Private Messages.
Spam (one-liners) are annoying and pointless. It is very difficult to reply to this type of spam or post. Look around the board and you'll find plenty of examples for what the standard of posting is. It really isn't that hard, if you're having trouble with making a large post, refer to the Posting Guide which is provided in the Rules section.
Section Four: Activity
Post often. We know there will be times when you just can't get to the computer, but don't be a hermit! Let us know you are still active in the game. Remember you have responsibilities to other characters and we cannot hold up the entire game for you, so post often. If you come to a point where you are holding up play, the GMs will decide what to do with your character.
- The character may be removed from play, or may be killed. Either way, a prolonged absence forfeits the rights to the character and it will be dealt with so as to keep the story going and not hold up play.
If you decide not to be a member anymore, please just let the staff know. If you are simply going on vacation/are ill/etc, please post to the leave of absence thread. If you choose to retire a character or it is retired from inactivity, please contact an administrator if you would like to reactivate it.
Section Five: Characters
Everyone starts out with only ONE character, until they prove that they can post and not hold up the game, at which point you may request from the Staff the ability to make another one. All of your characters must remain active, or a moderator will request that the inactive characters be retired.
When designing a character, make your character relevant to the Firefly universe. That means a human of some description with probably no special abilities. Talents, such as being an expert shooter and all that jazz, are fine.
NO MARRY SUES Just like there are no perfect people in real life, this rule means no perfect characters. Do not make someone who is perfect, please. Give them faults and flaws. After all, that's what makes us interesting and different from each other.
Also, no aliens! There are no aliens in the Firefly universe.
No Knowing members of the Serenity crew. You don't know Mal, you don't know Zoe, none of them, so don't put that their your friends or anything of the sort.
Unless otherwise stated in the original canon, none of the canon characters have siblings. For example, Simon and River are the only Tam children, so do not create a character that is a sibling. No characters from other Universes, this is Firefly and Serenity only. You may use the actors from other things but not the character that they play in another show or movie.
This RP does not allow Psychics, Operatives, or Alliance 'secret' projects. - like River - Such things are too hard to regulate and are an extreme rarity in the verse'. Therefore it doesn't make much sense to have them running around everywhere.
Section Six: Getting Started
Note that you are to read these rules before you make your character. Once you have a character concept, please go to the Character Sheets board and post your character profile. You will also be required to post an rp sample with that character. You will need to wait for the Staff to Accept your character before posting. However, we do reserve the right to deny your application and ask you to make changes or alterations. We will try to work your character into the plot ASAP, so please be aware where we have currently active plots and characters when choosing where to place your character. Make sure that everything you need is on your character sheet. You CANNOT introduce anything into your characters history after Acceptance. If you are not used to making long posts, please inform the Staff. We want the site to be well written and will try to help you.
Section Seven: Post Acceptance
Once you are accepted - Your Display name is to be changed to your Character’s name. If you have an Avatar, please fix the size before you put it online to 250 width by 400 height (250x400 pixels.) Take note we prefer to keep avatars at a certain standard, which is up to staff discretion. No drawings, no anime, no cartoons, no banners. Just an actor/actress, with preferably clothing and background which seems fitting.
After your character is Accepted, you may not change or add anything without the expressed permission of the Staff. This means, no introducing outside elements, people or items. This includes not adding to the history of your character. If you do attempt to add things, the Staff may delete your Post. We may decide to notify you of the problem and ask you to delete or edit it before we delete it. It's fine if you say that you want to add that in now, but you need to have it cleared with the staff first.
If you cannot deal with these measures, you are free to leave the site at any time.
Take Note - The rules of this site may change, but participation on this site recognizes that you accept and follow these rules. "Not knowing the rules", is not grounds for breaking them. Checking the rules frequently is advised to ensure that you continue to follow them.
Operational Notes
No starting character can have a ship without Admin approval.
This is a Role-playing Forum, it is an adaptation of the traditional tabletop RPG games, where a group of people come together to participate in adventures as rolled up characters. The point is to interact, to be part of a group, to face and hopefully overcome challenges that the Game Master or Admins throw at you. It is, at its very essence, an interactive game. There is no reason for a ship’s crew to be made up entirely of NPCs. Crews may contain some NPCs, but the majority of the crew must be made up of PCs.
