First Name: Joseph
Last Name: Fuller
Nickname: Jay
Age: 259
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 200lbs
Appearance: Jay, standing near six feet, has never been a muscular person. He has always sat on the thinner side of the spectrum, though he has never been unfit. While through school, he found some relief in exercising. Dark brown hair has been a strong feature from his face to his chest, he had always felt it looked good on his body, highlighting the best areas.
Until recently, the hair on his head hung messy in his face until an unfortunate accident with some tongs and adhesive left him to chop the majority of it off. His face holds little blemishes, except for the occasional freckle. His jawbone was square, and His eyes are sky blue, taking after his mother.
His clothing tends to be decently fashionable. Usually more modern, like the type of semi-formal clothing one would find in the Core worlds. He tends to wear clothes of darker colors, grays, dark blues, greens, blacks. He often felt stronger if he felt he looked good, so upon joining a crew he kept most of his clothes.
Persuasion: Independant
Military Service: None
General Skills: Jay went through medical school first thing. While he wasn't the best student, he did manage to graduate. He is skilled with basic doctoring, from doing health checks to minor surgery. In a perfect world, he would like a quiet place to do said minor surgery, but life on The Chainless hasn’t always allowed for such accommodations.
Talents: Jay has always been an avid writer. Granted, he rarely tells anyone or shares, but he writes often. His room is full of various notebooks that are filled with things from little short stories to silly drawings. While in school, he taught himself how to cook. He often finds new ways to recreate or alter recipes – sometimes bad, sometimes good. He usually will opt for some grocery shopping whenever the crew hits land.
Flaws: Jay is generally a shy and socially awkward person. Once he warms up to someone he is fine, but first meeting he tends to be quiet. Often times, when panicked or stressed, he sometimes loses the ability to think clearly and, in an attempt to be fast, will make mistakes.
Personality Traits: When you first meet Jay, he is shy. He will warm up to you, however, if you’re a nice enough person. Sarcastic and joking, Jay rarely shows negative emotion. Those he is close with will see more of a spectrum with his emotions. But even then, they don’t always get the full story.
Overall, he is an optimistic fellow. He tries his best to see the lighter side of things, even in some of the worst situations. Sometimes he can be a little rash and not think things through. He enjoys writing and reading, he keeps a small journal with his things to jot down things whenever inspiration strikes.
He has skills with medical situations – he trained in and graduated Medical School. This helped him to think more critically about problem solving, though his rash decision making can sometimes get in the way of him sitting down and figuring things out.
Though he prefers to remain silly and loose, he knows when he needs to be serious. When working, he may have occasional jokes and smart-ass comments, but he never fails to get the job done. He’s a dedicated and loyal person. Once you make it in with Jay, he’ll go to the ends of the earth for you. Sometimes that can be to his detriment, but rarely will he abandon those he cares about.
He’s never really fit in with the other guys. He spent so much time with his mother as a child that he never had much of a male figure in his life. He can, however, socialize with other men fine; he’s just never found himself relating to them. He’s much more confident hanging out around women. Despite this, his mannerisms are never out right feminine.
History: Jay was born in the year 2489, on May 7th on Paquin. His father was a soldier for the Independents during the Unification War, so Jay was left with his mother for the majority of his adolescence. His childhood for the most part was essentially uneventful. His father was a hard worker and was rarely around. His mother was very invested in the local operas and arts, so Jay grew up around the theater. As he got older, his enjoyment of the operas slowly died out. It was around this time that he realized a love of writing. He began keeping a Journal in which he wrote things from little short stories to journal entries.
When he was fourteen years old, Jay’s father left home for the Unification War. Adolescence was the hardest time of Jay’s life. When he was fifteen he had his first girlfriend, a girl named Kayleigh. The two spent a lot of time together, but their relationship was less of boyfriend/girlfriend and more of best friends. Jay grew up mostly around girls, so he had no idea how to be a boyfriend, only how to be the best friend. Because of that, Kayleigh eventually dumped him. It was around that time that Jay began questioning himself. Though he never told anyone, he soon secretly considered himself sly. He never ruled out the possibility of being with a woman, however.
When he was eighteen, he finally told his mother about his suspicions, just before leaving for medical school. His mother cried, and became angry. The conversation lasted hours, her telling him how wrong it was. For the next year, Jay experimented. He tried being with women and he couldn’t invest himself in it, but when he wanted to be with someone of the same gender, he was wracked with guilt. Finally, he decided he needed to get away from his home influences and find things out for himself. He transferred medical schools to one several hours away instead of only fifteen minutes.
His father came home when he was eighteen, crippled. It was a rough time for the family, his mother still upset at Jay’s confession. When she told his father, his father also became angry and expressed many times how it was his fault for not being around, which made Jay feel even more guilty.
It was around the time when he was twenty that Jay quit talking to his parents. Not entirely, just the calls became more and more infrequent. He also severed himself off from romantic ties – concentrating on his studies at school. He graduated at age 25, with (almost) flying colors. Jay never considered himself gifted, but he was smart. He applied at a local hospital to become a doctor’s apprentice. From that, he raised a small amount of money and spent most of it buying passage to Persephone.
When he told his parents his plans, they became worried. It was rare that anyone his family had even gone to school, let alone left the planet. But he wanted to get away, he wanted to use his talent elsewhere and travel the galaxy. He soon left, and on Persephone he planned to get hired as a mercenary or a medic on a ship and start his life out in space, travelling the ‘Verse.
RP Sample: Jay wandered around the docks, gazing at the many different ships. It astounded him how large some of these things were. Some were practically miniature cities while others like a small apartment. It was always a sort of dream of his to fly in one of these giant vessels. And well, that was what he was here to do.
As he wandered, he hoped that he would find someone that was looking for a new crew member. He didn't have much experience in, well, anything unfortunately. He wondered what sort of things he could be good at. Maybe he should just be a passenger? But then he would have to pay, and he hadn’t much money. This made him think that he may end up getting a really shady crew which would not be good. Or maybe they wouldn’t be so bad? Heck, he may even go so far as to wonder if he’d fall in love or create some enemies!
Yes, it was this sort of experience that Jay was out to find. However, now it was just a matter of finding the right crew, and how hard could that be? With the hundreds of ships that came in and out of here, there had to be someone who would take him, right?
