Deimos
The light on the ceiling ran in perfect parallels. It illuminated the particular room very well. The room, which was actually two rooms, had a dividing wall running through to separate the equally sized portions between lounge and sleeping quarters. The walls themselves were a blue and purple. There were decorations along them, tables with fine pieces of pottery, and some paintings upon the wall. Everything was set up very neatly, and it would seem someone had been residing in there for a very long time. There were chairs in the lounge area, situated in a symmetrical pattern facing each other. There was a wall, which had a clear panel running through it that was cortex screen. At the sides there were also some sculptures, several of which had a little orb situated on it. The orbs glowed white, like little models of the central sun. From them there was a light that went to the center of the room, which created a holographic image of a green hill location, with a waterfall running. It was evidently an image of a central planet.
The door in the room opened up. Beyond the door was metallic hall, but was contrast to the room inside. It was uniform, and far less artistic. Standing there was a man with gray uniform. He had a hat in his hand, which he’d evidently removed out of respect. He stepped inside. He looked about the room a moment, then to the opening in the dividing wall, in which a dark skinned man appeared. He held in his hand a very glass with black liquid inside.”Good afternoon Admiral Moses” The Dark skinned man said. His voice was deep yet was gentle. He was older and muscular, a contrast to the man who had entered the room. The Admiral was shorter, middle aged, and had pale skin. Apparently he hadn’t expected to see someone there already as his head moved quickly. ”Can I offer you a glass of Nísī?” He asked moving towards one of the small statues. He tapped the orb and the holographic image of the waterfall disappeared. ”Please sit.” He said holding his hand out to the chair at the left side of the room. He said this as he sat down in the opposite on the right.
The Admiral took a breath and cleared his throat. ”No thank you, and I’d rather stand.” The admiral said as he stepped a bit further into the room now that the projection was gone. It revealed much more space for him. The door had closed behind him and he stepped so that he was in front of the dark skinned man.
”And what is it that I can help you with Admiral?” The Dark Skinned man asked with an extremely neutral tone. He took a sip from the glass, and set it on a small table beside him. He then picked up a small silver ‘pyramid’ which was about half the size of his thumb. He set it near his right knee, and a small holographic projection began to appear for him, and the object itself remained right where it was.
”Are your accommodations to your liking? Was everything you asked for brought in?” He asked walking a bit towards the wall in a slight pace.
”Precisely as I had requested, give my compliments to your subordinates Admiral.” The Dark Skinned man said nodding towards the Admiral. A light smile formed on his face and he looked right at the Admiral. His hand moved over the hologram and the image shifted to show data across, but it went so quickly that the Admiral couldn’t read it.
The Admiral stopped and took another strong breath. ”May I be frank sir?” The Admiral asked with a strained look on his face.
”Please do Admiral. Tell me what it is that is on your mind.” The Dark Skinned man said. His fingers stopped moving the hologram, but the data continued to move. He reached over and picked up the cup once more.
”Sir, when I was informed you wish to come aboard my vessel, I had no protest.” He began and turned to face the Dark Skinned man. ”But you are a guest on board my vessel, and it is my decision when it launches, and where it is that we will go.” The Admiral spoke with an authoritative tone, but at the same time it sounded like he feared what his words might cause.
The Dark Skinned man had dropped his light smile, and he picked up the pyramid. Setting it back on the table, though the hologram remained. In his right hand the small glass remained. ”I understand Admiral.” He said, crossing his legs. ”You don’t like that I went over your head and gave the order to launch, without telling you first.” He spoke with a very calm clarity, and his words carried all around the room.
”Well, yes, that’s right.” The Admiral responded, seeming somewhat surprised that the man would concede that.
”Know that I understand your position Admiral.” He continued. He hadn’t been finished at all. From within his pocket he removed a small silver wand for a data pad. ”But now I need you to understand Admiral.” He looked the Admiral right in the eyes and spun the silver wand in his hand. ”This is your ship, and everyone on it is under your command.” He took a sip from the glass, and continued to look at the Admiral. ”But the moment I set foot upon metal, this became my ship, and everyone on it under my command.” He said with the same tone.
”But I…” The Admiral began, but stopped as the Dark Skinned man raised his hand up to indicate he wasn’t finished.
”And it is your decision Admiral,” He said with the silver wand between his index fingers. whether that includes you.” The Dark Skinned man kept his eyes straight on the Admiral. They didn’t move, and they blinked quickly and deliberately.
The Admiral turned his head, and his mouth formed the start of various words. It was like a threat, but he wasn’t entirely certain. He wanted to say something to refute it, or to put the man in his place, but there was nothing that he could do. The stress and discontent was visible all over with his eyes narrowing and widening, his lips twisting, but he didn’t say anything. He just resorted to closing his mouth. ”Yes sir.” He said nodding. ”That’s all I had to say.” There was nothing he could say, and there was nothing he could do. He just gave a bow and began to step out.
”Very well Admiral.” The Dark Skinned man said looking over at the defeated man. He reached over and set his glass down, and picked the cup back up. ”And please Admiral.” He said just as the Admiral was about to reach the door. ”Call me Deimos.”
