First Name: Carl
Last Name: Davidson
Nickname” Lieutenant
Age: 42
Height: 6”1
Weight: 215 lbs
Appearance: Carl generally is seen wearing very simple clothing, which is in the same style of many who live on the border and rim. He wears suspenders with just about everything, but doesn’t have a show that presents much more then a man with simple taste. He has a light brown cowboy hat which is seen with just about every aspect of his wardrobe. A beard and mustache wrap around his mouth and jaw, that connects to the hair on his head, which is brown and rests on his shoulders. Carl is almost always visibly armed, carrying around a short double barrel shotgun just about everywhere he goes. He’s a large man, with a bit of a belly. That can be deceptive however as he is very physically fit. He is very muscular, and typically has an expression that displays his serious nature.
Persuasion: Independent
Military Service: Independent Lieutenant 2506-25011
General Skills:
- Weapons Proficiency – Carl can handle just about any weapon that is put in his hands. He has been shooting all his life, and has fired more bullets then career soldiers. He enjoys shooting as a recreational activity, and is very good with a rifle and a pistol. He is even good at fighting with just a knife, though that comes up rarely.
- Hand To Hand Combat – Most might not believe it right off, but Carl is very good in a fist fight. He can take a lot of abuse, and is very strong. He plays to the advantage, and will put his opponent down as quickly as possible.
- Tactical Assessment – Carl has always been good at figuring out what the next move is in terms of a fight. This has helped him in his military career as well as his employment since.
Talents: Carl is Longstreet’s most loyal and effective worker. For years he’s proven that he can get just about anything that is asked of him done to the best of his ability. He’s very good at intimidation, and can back it up with his skills in a fight. He has a good control over people that may be working under him at any given point, and doesn’t have much time for fooling around.
Flaws: Carl is impatient. If something needs doing, he will try to have it done quickly. This will at times make him reckless, and quick to jump into a fight. His brutal history has fed into an aggressive nature which has put him at odds with many. He has very few friends, and doesn’t have relationships in the way that he once did. He also has an innate feeling of being subservient. He constantly feels as though people are above him, but hides it well. When it comes to those he knows are lower then him, he treats them as though they are just that.
Personality Traits: Carl has a very serious personality. He was raised in an environment that didn’t lend to much playing around. As he got older and went through the military, his serious nature was rewarded. Working with Longstreet has made his harsh sensibilities very necessary. He doesn’t feel bad for the things he’s had to do, which has caused him to be distanced from many. He is also very protective of Longstreet.
History: Carl was born and raised on Bestla, the first moon of Aesir in the Red Sun System. His family lived in a semi arid environment as farmers. There were a lot of people that worked there, and life was hard. The rain that did come was sporadic and it made growing crops rather difficult. Still they did their best to keep the farm running so that they could feed themselves and market off the rest. Carl was taught to read and given a very basic education by his mother, but once he was old enough, he began working in the fields with the rest of his siblings. He was the second child of four, and his father was a very serious man. The way they lived wasn’t easy, and he was big on discipline.
In his early teenage years his older brother was looking at leaving to find something better. He wanted to go to the cities on the Central Planets, something that seemed crazy. He never actually did make it, but Carl got the idea of leaving the farm in his head too. He knew that his older brother was going to get the farm when their father died, and so he needed to make a way for himself. When he was eighteen he told his father he was leaving to the market to pick up some seeds, but he was really leaving. Once he got to town, he hopped on a carriage that was going to Gortortol, the nearest town that had ships leaving the planet.
He didn’t have almost any money to speak of, and he stowed away on a ship heading to Greenleaf. Half way through the trip however he was discovered. He was beaten up by the crew when he was found and locked up. He was handed off to the authorities once they landed, and Carl spent his first month off of his homeworld in a jail cell. In here he had a rough time, having to fight and live day to day in a harsh humid place. Inside however he met a man named Yago Ernest. They were released at about the same time, and when Carl was out in the town on his first day, he found Yago in a bar.
Yago was in a local gang, and he brought Carl in. The gang taught Carl how to fight, and already being a fairly large man, Carl was perfect for them. He worked routes of intimidation, and brutalized whoever they needed to be beaten down. They put a gun in his hand soon enough, and Carl had shot his first man before he turned nineteen years old. He felt bad about it, especially since it was only over the mans wallet, but the others had kept him in the right state of mind to where it wasn’t a problem. After having to do it a few more times, Carl didn’t have nearly as much trouble.
The gang had to split up however as the crime rate in the town was brought into order, and Carl found himself on a moon of Verbena called Lassek. He began to work as a security guard at a bar which had frequent problems. In this time he met Mona who was a worker at the bar, and the two started a relationship. After only a month the two ran off to get married. The marriage lasted only three months before the two couldn’t stand each other, and they divorced.
This put Carl into a time where he thought he needed to rethink his life, and that he may need better surroundings. He moved to the Central Planets, and set up on Sihnon. He worked at a star port as a security guard. This was nice, and it was easy. But the people there knew he wasn’t from the Central planets and it put him at odds with his employers and people he worked with. When he finally realized he couldn’t stand it anymore, he decided that the army life might suit him better. He enlisted in Union Army at age 26.
Carl took very well to the soldier’s life. He wasn’t treated the best in training, but once it was over, he was easily one of the better soldiers in his group. He worked his way up to corporal in a short period of time as he was willing to put forth his brutal efforts to get a job done. When battling a group of armed men on the streets of Sihnon, Carl’s superior officer was killed, and he impersonated him and gave an order to continue a push against them, which wound up turning the fight in their favor. He did however never own to what he’d done, as it would have been very bad for him. He did not re enlist and instead took the money he had made and went to the officers training school.
Carl did very poorly in all things that focused on academic understanding due to his lack of schooling, but he was very good at the points regarding strategy and actual fitness testing. He graduated at the very bottom of his class, and was assigned as an Ensign for Colonel Longstreet. Longstreet himself was from the Rim, and so he had a certain respect for Carl’s upbringing and past. Over the course of a year however, he began to impart more and more of his thoughts onto Carl as they were around each other at almost all times. The political turmoil that began in 2505 left a difficult decision in Carl’s mind, but he kept it to himself. To his surprise however, Longstreet had a similar dilemma, and Longstreet informed Carl he would be resigning his position, and off the record, that he would be making a bid for placement in the Army of the Independents. Carl, having the same beliefs and thoughts, requested to go with him and was aloud to do so. Longstreet and Carl were both aloud to keep their same ranks. But with Longstreet’s record he was given a placement as a General. Carl did not receive such treatment, but fortunately for him, Longstreet made the request to keep him on as his Ensign.
They moved off towards Kalidasa, and in a staging point on Verbena Carl met his second wife, Elsie. It was a welcome shift from the troubling time they were in, and even though they'd only known each other a short time, Carl proposed just before he had to head off to battle. He promised that he'd be back and they'd get married when he did. He'd hoped that the war would be over by then, but he was unfortunately wrong. He did return after four months, and they were married.
Throughout the war Carl saw many battles under Longstreet. Though he was strictly Longstreet’s ensign, he frequently led men into battle in both small skirmishes and large battles. Longstreet saw him as one of his best soldiers, and didn’t hesitate to take advantage of it. Carl never did see a promotion, but never aspired to have one. He was directly under the command of Longstreet, and acted almost as a personal attack dog. Carl didn’t care though, as he developed a great sense of loyalty and respect for Longstreet.
As the war progressed, there was more and more risk being placed on the Rim planets, and Carl gave Elsie money to relocate to Beaumonde, where it would be safer. He really wanted to send her to the Core worlds because they were the safest place and he knew it. Unfortunately he couldn't afford that, and it wasn't a good idea for an Independent officers wife to be living in the heart of the enemy's territory. He found a nice place at the Northern part of the planet, and she was comfortable. At points of downtime he would live there with her.
The war was hard on both of them, and the time he spent away made her bitter and lonely. They began to drift apart over the course of the war, and after a bombing run had come close to their home, she finally came to the conclusion it was too much, and that Carl just wasn't able to keep her safe. Elsie found her way into the arms of another man, and when Carl found out he went into a rage. Their marriage had only lasted from 2506 till late 2508, and Carl raced down their home. She had disappeared, and in his rage, Carl burned down the house. No one knew what happened there, and it was, and still is suspected by some, that Carl found his wife there with the other man, and he murdered them both. There was no way to be sure, but his harsh nature only became harsher as a result. In fact Carl had not found anyone there, but there are still many that suspect foul play.
When the war ended however, Carl as a member of Longstreet’s personnel, was not arrested. The moment the war was over however, Longstreet knew that Carl would have a great deal of trouble staying on his feet, and he hired him immediately as his personal body guard. After months the conflict became a memory, and Carl began to work for Longstreet as his head enforcer.
Carl had known and assisted with a number of Longstreet’s smuggling operations during the war, and his own experiences didn’t give him much trouble in working with him in his post war activities. It actually was something Carl felt very good about. He knew that what he was doing was illegal, but he didn’t care. He was in a very good place, and was still working for Longstreet. He lived well, and did things that he enjoyed. There wasn’t a lot about his job that he didn’t enjoy. As always he was acting as Longstreet’s right hand, and that suited him just fine.
He still works as Longstreet’s head enforcer and has developed quite a reputation for what he does. He commands a lot of respect, and gives all of his respect to Longstreet. He is referred to be Longstreet as “Lieutenant” a majority of the time, as for the first year that he knew him, that was all Longstreet really referred to him as, and Carl does the same, only referring to Longstreet as “Colonel”.
