6:50 P.M. Local Time 10 Miles Outside Glass Knife
The desert was vast and the breeze forced a shiver from Ray.
Ray sat in the back of the large, pale grey van. The two back doors hung open while Ray's legs dangled from the edge as he stared at a patch of dirt that remained undisturbed beside three, sickly brown bushes.
Spots of dried blood that were several years old became so much more vibrant in that moment. A Python 9V was resting on the ground with the, now comfortable, stains. The Python 9V was a rare model, not yet released to the public with only a few sample models floating around the ever welcoming universe. That weapon was beautiful and ever functional. It would never disappoint those who held it. It had a purpose and as a tool it had no sense of ownership. The weapon was loyal to whatever hand could hold it.
Ray sat in that desert for hours, his gloved fingers drumming on his legs. He sat there, staring at a solid patch of dirt.
He had been there before.
Ray's eyes were swollen.
He wasn't alone the last time. He wasn't alone now.
Ray sobbed into his hands.
The dirt stayed solid.
