Ashdown, Beylix May 10th, 2518 Local time: 6:59 PM AST: 11:03 AM
Ilana checked the cortex for the local weather and found it was -10 degrees Celsius. She groaned aloud and dressed in her usual jeans, t-shirt, and boots. She added thick fingerless gloves and a duster to that, pulled a knitted cap down over her ears and scratched Reggie between the ears, sitting in his enclosure against the wall opposite the door. "You can't go this time. Too cold," she said to her sweet little rat.
The cold wind bit through her long, black duster like it wasn't even there. Her thick, fingerless gloves might as well be gauze for all the good they were doing. She made her way from the docks to the tavern, fighting the urge to wrap her arms around herself the whole way. She would be glad to put this frozen hell in the dust when the cargo arrived in the morning. Zipper's, she thought with a slight smirk as she approached. What a ridiculous name for a bar.
Ilana sighed at the warm air that blasted her face as she opened the door to the bar. She went inside, her duster rippling around her in the icy wind before the door closed behind her. She shook herself and went to the bar, ordered a bourbon, and found her usual seat in the corner of the room to watch the door, and wait for her crew. Tonight was different than the usual wait though. Tonight was to celebrate being back in the black, with work, together. They'd all been on this ship for nearly a month and hadn't killed each other yet. So far Helios hadn't been drunk at the helm so that was something. She'd seen him have a drink after hours a few times, but he hadn't been drunk even away from the helm that she'd seen.
"Small favors," she muttered to herself and took a sip of her bourbon, feeling the fire spread from her throat to her stomach and finally smiled.
She leaned back in her chair in the corner and drummed her fingers on the table, somewhat excited to have a night of celebration for once. No fancy dresses this time, thank the nine, she thought.
She noticed she was still wearing her gloves and pulled them off, stuffing them in a pocket of her duster. She flexed her hands, feeling the warmth finally coming back to them. She was not looking forward to walking back to the ship after dark.
-10 degrees Celsius = 14 degrees Fahrenheit

Holly leaned against the far end of the bar, showing off her assets. She watched the woman in the long black duster cross the room to the table in the corner. She narrowed her eyes slightly at the idea of another pretty girl to take attention away from her, but that didn't last long. After a long look, the woman was pretty sure, but she was also hard and wouldn't get much more than a passing glance as opposed to Holly. I'm actually beautiful, she thought conceitedly, making herself feel better. She smiled brightly at the bartender and said with a wink, "Pass me another round sugar."
The bartender slid her another fruity drink, sans umbrella, and she took it gingerly from the bar. She leaned toward Jake and said quietly, "See anyone that looks good?"

Rina paid for her purchases and quit the hardware store with some regret. It was damned cold outside and damned warm inside. And it wasn't just the heaters hanging from the rafters that made the place a welcome respite from the world: the staff and regulars loved talking shop and she'd spent a little over an hour lingering with them and talking trade.
She didn't get much opportunity to talk with others with any depth of knowlege about her favorite subjects, but this day threw the opportunity her way and she took it.
Her parka was a good one, weather tight and warm. It covered her to her knees. Her hood was cinched down to cut out the drafts and her scarf took care of her face. Only her eyes showed past furry ruff and woollen scarf, and even then, one saw then only through her goggles. Warm long johns under canvas coveralls, wool socks, and her stout work boots took care of everything else the coat couldn't. Rina might have sold her posessions down to the bare minimum to travel light but one thing she refused to part with were clothes proper to any climate she might find herself in.
Escaping the wolves at her heels only to die from the elements, was stupid as hell and her mother didn't raise a fool.
That said, Rina couldn't claim she was completely warm. She was still a little cold, just not frozen into stiffness or immobility. Her shouldered pack helped cut the wind from that quarter and her purchases wouldn't suffer from the temperature.
The wind lashed at her, tugging at her parka, whistling in her ears. It reminded her of the autumn she'd spent at her uncle's dacha, that year she'd lived with him on the taiga while her parents went on tour. This was a mild late autumn day, in comparison, and it made her a little homesick as she crossed the town to the bar. She missed her family.
Nevertheless, she was grateful to leave the outdoors for the indoors of the bar. She stamped her feet once over the threshold and shook the worst of the snow off her, then joined her captain at the rear table.
"I got the last of it," she said quietly as she pulled out her chair and sat down. "I'll have that thing you wanted in a jiff. Any new word from your end?"

The shocking red hair of the doxy at the bar caught Ilana's eye as she shook her head, letting her long locks swing all around her. Ilana shook her head, and her attention was pulled away by the door opening. Rina stepped inside, stamped the snow off of her feet, and headed toward the table.
"I got the last of it," Rina said quietly, sitting down. "I'll have that thing you wanted in a jiff. Any new word from your end?"
Ilana pulled off her knit cap, took a swig of her bourbon and shook her head. "Nothing new. Cargo'll be here at first light, and we'll dust off shortly after that. I'm still not sure what to make of the whole thing," she said, stuffing the hat into a pocket, and rubbed her breast pocket, momentarily forgetting Reggie wasn't in it. She dropped her hand back to the table somewhat disappointed. The little guy had become a sort of comfort object for her. Whenever she was irritated or anxious, giving the little rat scratches between his ears had helped calm her. That tiny creature had been responsible for the majority of her anger management, as it were.
She was only mildly anxious, and that was mostly due to the cargo they were discussing. The red-head at the bar caught her eye again. She was speaking to a guy at the bar. Likely a mark, Ilana thought, turning her attention back to Rina.

Helios walked around a bit, he enjoyed the cold as it pierced his thin duster, he kept his hood up as to not arouse suspicion, even with the yellow boots. He still didn't know the crew all to well, he kept to his job mostly, otherwise he felt awkward, they all seemed to know each other, besides that central planet girl, he avoided her the most, but the rest seemed to know each other and he still didn't know what to gage off them. He went in and out of a few stores until stumbling across a diamondback rattlesnake in a tank, Helios being the moron he is stuck his arm in the tank, but the snake show'd no interest in biting him, instead it slithered up his arm, dope he thought as the snake seemed to get along with him. So he approached the counter.
"How much for this'n?" Helios asked as the man working the desk looked a bit surprised but said the price was 100c, so he paid for the snake and other things he needed, with the total coming out to 150c while also buying a pocket heater for 1c to keep it warm. He sent everything besides the snake to the ship and slipped it into his massive pocket and walked to Teddy's Tavern were he took a seat next to the group and ordered a drink keeping quiet.

Jake rolled his eyes as Holly flirted with the bartender. The bartender slid her drink to her and she leaned in to Jake.
"See anyone that looks good?"
He shook his head but said nothing at first, casually scanning the bar around him, looking for the right man for the job he needed done. His eyes fell on the man with the pink hair as he entered the bar. He watched the man get a drink from the bar and make his way to the table in the corner where two women sat. He narrowed his eyes and nodded at the pink haired man.
"That one looks right," he said quietly to Holly.

The bar was a bit dark inside, but it was more for amosphere rather than sqalor or age. There were neon lights and animated displays placed around the bar for good effect. The lights gleamed on the luxurious hair of the red head at the bar. It was a shiny jewel set in mud and hard to miss.
"Vodka, one shot. Coffee, black, hot. Thanks." Rina said when the wait staff came to take her order. When the staff moved off, Rina eyed the redhead at the bar again. As she watched, she saw the woman turn to look at the front door. Following her gaze, Rina saw Helios stumble in, and the redhead shifted on her barstool to watch him cross the floor.
That's when Rina saw it.
"Captain?" Rina leaned in and said loud enough only for Ilana to hear. "Suka on your two. Knife. Thigh. Looking for trouble."
Rina kept a covert eye on the redhead. So she saw the word exchanged with the bartender, saw the point and the nod.
"Looks like she found it," Rina said quietly. She started mapping the way out in her head.

Ivy wandered around the store she had found, originally looking for a pair of gloves to keep her hands from freezing off. She had gotten distracted, however, and wasn't sure if she was late or not for the celebration at the tavern. Still, she hadn't found a pair of gloves yet, and was infinitely determined to get something to keep her hands warm. She kneeled down, shifting things on shelves around before finding a pair of plain, black gloves, which she picked up gratefully. When she stood back up, something caught her eye.
Ivy's eyes lit up as she picked up an obnoxiously bright green, sparkly cowboy hat. She started towards the counter, paying for both items and slipping the hat on with glee. She put on the gloves and left the store, on her way to the tavern, and the delighted look never left her face.
Finally, Ivy got to the bar. She stepped inside, breathing a sigh of relief as she felt the warmth rush at her face. Glancing around, she smiled at the crew sitting together at a nearby table. She slipped into a seat near Rina, tipping her hat at her with a gleam in her eyes.
"Howdy," Ivy grinned, feeling very proud of herself for finding this hat. This was definitely the best part of the trip so far.

Helios suddenly became aware of the two sets of eye's on him,but he was use to people staring at his hair or boots, so he reached his hand into his pocket petting the snake, it seemed to tolerate him touching it for now at least. Helios started drinking but limited himself after Persephone, but then he noticed the hat, he averted his eyes as he did not want to deal with that sober.

Jace muttered to himself as he crossed the town. The goram shop he just visited didn't have his goram ammo to restock, not that he was low, but he wanted more than what he had. He thumbed the hilt of his knives out of annoyance than nervousness as he strode through. The cold biting at his hands as he left them uncovered and hidden in his sleeves of his thick coat. He remembered briefly where he got to the coat on the first mission when he met the crew he was with now. He couldn't believe the time that had flew. Jace also pondered his increasing dances with death that he seemed to dodge since falling in with this group.
"Guai! What is with this cold!" Jace exclaimed to himself, reigning his head in he looked around before he was accused of being moon brained.
He saw Teddy's Tavern and ran inside tripping over the door frame and almost falling on his face. Catching himself he tried to play it off and walked to the bar.
"I assure you I am sober just froze. Need something strong and with rum." Jace spoke calmly to the bartender, looking over and eyeing the red haired girl admiring what she was showing, but ultimately shaking his head. Doxies....
Eyeing the crew that had slowly began gathering in the corner he hit the scrambler again and moved over to them.
Nudging Helios as he sat down following his eyes towards the girl.
"Kuh ai!" Jace spoke, and nodding his head to the doxy. "What about you Ivy cute thing over there?"
He suspected Helios of being sly, but never tried to go into his personal life didn't know him enough to ask, but Ivy certainly didn't hide her taste. His thoughts was broken as the bartender brought him his drink and the bottle he asked to follow.
"Gohn Si! We are back in the black." Jace couldn't be happier being with his crew and being back in the sky out of atmo excluding the current state of being grounded.
"Gan beyh." he spoke before downing his drink and already going for a refill.
Chinese Phrases:
Guai - Hell Kuh ai - Cute Gohn Si - Congratulations Gan Beyh - Bottoms Up

There was no missing the hat, it practically glowed in the neon lights of the bar. And of course, Ivy sat next to her, so there was no missing her, either. Rina wasn't the immediately chummy sort, even after the length of time it took to travel from Persephone to Beylix, but that didn't mean she hadn't gotten a bead on the young woman.
Core bred. Raised on romantic stories of the Border and Rim. Too enthusiastic to perceive the reality of it. Or perhaps maintaining her enthusiasm despite reality.
There was something undeniably endearing about Ivy's cheerful zest for life. Rina just hoped it wouldn't bite Ivy in the ass, come adversity. Aloud, she merely said:
"Hey. Cold enough for you, yet?"
That last part came with a wry smile, offering tacit commiseration if Ivy needed to vent.

Ilana nodded to Helios as he sat without a word, quietly nursing a drink.
"Captain?" Rina leaned in and said loud enough only for Ilana to hear. "Suka on your two. Knife. Thigh. Looking for trouble."
Rina's eyes never left the redhead as she spoke softly. Ilana glanced up and spotted what Rina had noticed, and saw that the woman kept flicking her eyes to their table. She thought she was being covert, but not covert enough it seems. Of course, Ilana herself had missed the knife until Rina spotted it.
"Good eye," she said quietly to Rina.
Ilana took a swig of her bourbon and her eyes briefly left the redhead when she saw the door open out of the corner of her eye. Ivy, their passenger had just walked in. Ilana swallowed hard, only inhaled about half of her swig. "Oh my god," Ilana said low, coughing around the bourbon burning in her lungs.
She coughed some more at the offending substance, burning every time she tried to breathe, as she watched Ivy - grinning like a Cheshire cat, a neon green hat perched atop her head that sparkled in the low lights of the bar. She took a seat next to Rina and - still grinning - said, "Howdy."
" 'Ello Ivy," Ilana wheezed, still trying to get her breathing right.
Rina had very obviously noticed the garish hat, but had tactfully mentioned the weather to Ivy instead. Ilana was grateful, as she had a moment to hack the bourbon out. When she got herself right, she saw Helios' hand in his pocket, looking as though he was petting something much like she pets Reggie when it's not too cold for him to be out and about.
"Whatcha got in your pocket?" Ilana asked Helios, genuinely curious what sort of critter he had.
The door swung open again and Jace literally stumbled in, eyed the red-haired doxy, and then made his way to their table. He nudged Helios and mentioned the doxy to both Helios and Ivy before getting excited about being on the ship again.
"Gohn Si! We are back in the black. Gan beyh," Jace said, downing a drink.
"I'll drink to that," Ilana said, downing half her glass, making sure to get it down the right hole this time.
She put her glass back on the table and signaled the bartender for another round. "Anybody seen Jay?"

Jake said nothing further on the subject, but watched Holly eye the man for a minute or so. She looked as though she was paying attention, which is all Jake really needed. Instead of furthering the conversation, he nodded politely to Holly and walked away from her. He took for granted that she would do her job when the time came and disappeared into the crowd.

Ivy watched Ilana choke on her drink at the sight of her, and a laugh bubbled out of her. Ivy felt her cheeks heat up when she heard Jace address her, but grinned up at him anyway.
"She's cute, but not my type," she said, face still flushed red. She certainly wasn't cold anymore. She watched Helios avert his eyes and smirked, catching his eye and giving him a wink. She gave Ilana a wave, still beaming at the reaction her hat had elicited. Maybe it was a bit of an eyesore, but it made her giddy to look at. Sue her. She shifted in her seat, angling herself at Rina again.
"I don't think I've ever been somewhere this cold before," she admitted with a smile. "I can't say I'm enjoying it." Ivy paused, her eyes landing on Helios. "I'd watch out if I were you," she says absently. "You're gonna be hit across the back with a chair, and I don't think you'll enjoy it." She stopped, realizing that she definitely could've worded that better. Oh well, too late now.

Jay had snuck out of the ship a bit earlier than the rest, craving the solid ground underneath his feet. It had been a couple years since he’d been on a ship, and while he was happy to be up in a ship, it took a while to get his space legs. Plus, he left Persephone with little to his name. Some clothes, some books and notebooks, and his gun.
Speaking of, it felt real weird to be carrying a pistol around again. It kept flopping around and hitting outer thigh as he walked. It, along with its holster, hadn’t been used since the last time he was on a crew. He wondered if he could even still shoot well, not that he shot well in the past. Still, the nagging feeling made him hook it on his belt before going out this morning.
The goal was to find a warmer jacket, which he did. It was a moderately thick duster that went down to his knees. He also found a pair of well-worn dark leather shoes with an orange stitching. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find a new gun holster. There were a couple decent weapons he thought about purchasing, but they were outside what he wanted to pay. No, he’d wait until he got paid again. Instead, he used the money to purchase a small leather-bound journal and a funky looking tourist pen. He wondered who in the world would tour this cold, little planet.
It wasn’t as cold as it looked, thankfully, so he didn’t bother picking up a hat and gloves. Not that they’d do him much use anyway, he hated wearing both and would rather just suffer the cold. By the time he had made his way to Teddy’s Tavern, he was running fashionably late. He walked in, immediately went to the bar to order himself a bourbon, and found his crew.
“Anybody seen Jay?” Ilana asked as he approached. He sat down and said, “Who?” He raised an eyebrow quizzically toward his captain before dissolving into a smile. “Sorry I’m late, got caught up in the shop. What did I miss?”

Helios watched the others enter not saying a word, Jaced nudged him calling the redhead cute, but he didn't speak up.
"You're gonna be hit across the back with a chair, and I don't think you'll enjoy it." Ivy said to him.
"The hell is that supposed to mean?" he asked Ivy, did the central girl just threaten him?
"Whatcha got in your pocket?" Ilana asked him, he thought about whether or not it'd be a good idea to show the snake, so of course as soon as Jay sat down he slipped the snake onto the table for everyone to see, whether or not this was a good idea he'd soon find out.

Holly took a sip of her fruity drink and pushed herself gracefully back from the bar. She screwed her face up into the best angry expression she could manage and stalked toward the table in the corner where the pink haired man sat. Keeping her hands clearly in sight, she came up beside him, and tapped him on the shoulder.
When he turned his head toward her, she threw her drink in his face, screaming, "You son of a bitch! You said you'd be back in a week!"
She caught sight of the rattlesnake on the table and screamed in earnest this time.

"You son of a bitch! You said you'd be back in a week!" the redhead shouted as she threw the drink in his face, Helios jumped out of his, surprised as to who this bimbo was.
"Who are you and what the hell was that for?" he yelled in the redheads face, just as he caught movement out of his good eye, he turned to see what that was, not wanting to take another drink to the face.

Jake broke from the crowd while Holly had everyone's attention. That fool couldn't have pulled that snake out at a more opportune moment either. Jake pulled the chair back like a bat.
The pink haired man must have caught sight of him and began to turn. Jake swung the chair as hard as he could and caught him directly in the right shoulder. The back of the chair splintered and flew in all directions.
