First Name: Maxwell (Max)
Last Name: DeLouis Alias: Williams
Age: 27
Height:6'
Weight: 180 lbs
Appearance: Blonde hair, blue eyes. Build is a little on the slender side but not thin. His clothes vary depending on what he's doing as he likes to blend in with his surroundings.
Persuasion: Neutral
Military Service: None
General Skills: Persuasion, guns (usually carries a revolver with him - hidden), setting up jobs (illegal), some street fighting skills
Talents: Max is a fixer. He's got a lot of connections in the underground and knows how to use them to his advantage. He's good at hiring the right people for the job.
Flaws: Secretive about most of his life, even Sam doesn’t actually know anything about his past.. The man can't cook and pretty much lives on take out. He is not comfortable on a ship and prefers to stay on the ground. Though it’s not fear and he will take ships when necessary he just doesn’t understand how people live on them, by choice. Tends to get in over his head at times but can, usually, get out of it.
Personality Traits: Max is someone who is easy to get along with but hard to truly get to know. He is a criminal but one with a set of standards. He only targets people that are wealthy. On one hand he might be blackmailing someone, on the other hand he might be helping someone out. Once he considers you a real friend, which is rare in his world, he's incredibly loyal.
History: Though it’s difficult to tell now, Max was born and raised on Haven. His mother left when he was an infant and he doesn’t know or care to know her whereabouts. His father was a two=bit con artist who had a habit of promising anything to anyone and never delivering. Basically, conning the most vulnerable out of money they couldn’t afford.
Max also had a half-sister, Saphora, who was about five years younger than Max. Saphora was the product of an off again/on again relationship his father had with one of the local women. When Saphora was three, her mother dropped her off and told Max’s father to look after their daughter. A few hours later Saphora’s mother was killed in a fire. After which, Saphora came to live with Max and his father.
His father would leave Max and Saphora alone a great deal of the time. Max was supposed to watch out for his sister and pretty much do anything around the house that needed doing. Max and Saphora became close and Max was very protective of his little sister.
One day Max’s father’s criminal activities caught up with him and targeted his house. They shot up the house, killing Max’s father and his sister. At this point Max was fourteen and while he was devastated over the loss of his sister, he also knew the mourning would have to be short as he had to figure out what to do next.
Taking the money he found in the house, Max hopped a ship to Ariel. There he met a con-artist named Daniel Hathaway. Daniel saw potential in Max and took him under his wing. He introduced the boy to anyone he would need to know. After a few years, once Max had a good hold on the underground connections of Ariel, Daniel retired and basically gave the business to Max. Max has been running it ever since.
RP Sample: “Look out!!!” Max yelled as he saw the guns pulled and the shots fired.
The man didn’t wait for a response. He ran and tackled the woman to the ground before the bullet could hit her.
“Get off of me,” The brunette under him said. “I mean thanks for saving my life but ..”
“I know we gotta get out of here.” Max finished her statement. “Follow me. I can get us out.”
“Why would I follow you? I don’t even know you.” As the woman spoke, a man went barreling into a wall next to them.
“Does that answer your question?” Max then simply said. “I’m going. It’s your funeral.”
He got off the young woman and crouching down made his way to a side exit. He knew she was right behind him the entire time. They made it outside and ran to another street away from the chaos.
The two stopped to take a breath and looked at each other. Then they started laughing. The entire thing was just ridiculous. There they were having a meeting regarding some illegally obtained information, both probably with a bounty or two on their heads and they almost got killed in what was really a drunken bar fight which had nothing to do with either of them.
“So, I didn’t get your name.” The young woman with the long dark hair finally said.
“Max. And yours?” The man with the blonde hair asked.
“Sam. And thanks again.”
“Well, you’re welcome. I’d hate to get blood on my new clothes, ya know?” He joked and then added. “If you're up for it maybe we can continue our meeting. I know of a little café down this block a bit.”
Sam breathed a laugh about the clothes. “Yeah, I get it. I would have been upset if my jacket had gotten messed up.” As for the meeting. “Sure.”
“Lā shǐ,” Max suddenly seemed to have another thought. “Cameras, they have us in the bar. They might be looking to question us.” He didn’t need to say that “they” meant law enforcement.
He could see the wheels turning in Sam’s mind but he wasn’t sure if she was coming up with an idea or there was something else behind that look.
“I can take care of it but I’m trusting you to keep it a secret.” Sam said and ducked into a nearby alley way.
Max had no idea what the woman was up to so he followed her and watched her open her data book, and go at it with a speed he had rarely seen. Several minutes later Sam closed her data book.
“Done.” She grinned. “Now, they don’t have us on the footage.”
“You’re a hacker?” Max didn’t know why he was surprised by that.
“You get a gold star or something.” Sam joked. “But you're the only one who knows.”
“That’s how you got the info.” Max pieced it together. “Who are you? I mean in the hacking world.”
“Why do you want to know?” Suspicion was suddenly back in the young woman’s voice.
Max couldn’t blame her for the question or the way it was asked. On the other side of the law made one suspicious of everyone. “I could hire you more regularly, if the information pans out, and we really don’t get hauled in for questioning. I’d rather do that by your hacker account, less traceable.”
Sam seemed to think about it for a few moments, then nodded. Instead of saying her hacker name, the brunette pointed to a bird with brown feathers who had just flown to the ground to peck at some dirt in a crack in the pavement. Then she put her hand up and moved her forefinger and thumb closer together in the universal sign for smaller.
It took a moment but Max quickly pieced it together. “You’re….” Not bothering to finish that statement.
Okay, that surprise would have surprised anyone in the criminal world that used hackers. Everyone thought that Xiao Niao (Little Bird) was someone older and while he didn’t actually know Sam’s age and might never know her real age, she certainly wasn’t old enough to be in the ballpark of her late 20’s.
After a brief moment of wrapping his head around that revelation, Max spoke up again. “Well, then shall we go and finish our meeting?”
