Eden, Omega Docking Slip #4 July 8th, 2518 AST: 5:44 PM
Ilana dressed in her usual T-shirt, pants, and boots, and selected an especially loud Hawaiian style shirt. The base was a soft cream color with bright, neon strawberries all over it. Despite being on her own ship, she still slipped her guns into their holster and slipped the knife into her boot. They'd come by the chainless by mercilessly murdering the entire crew with Morse's raiding party. She knew from first-hand experience that being on your own ship, didn't make you safe.
After dressing, and putting away dark thoughts, she poured a dark bourbon and took a swig. That was a really good bourbon. Taking the bottle with her, she headed up to the galley for dinner. There she found at least the crew already in place, along with a new one she didn't really know.
She put the bottle on the table along with her own glass and said, "Help yourselves if you'd like any of the bourbon." She made herself a plate and sat down with the rest of the bunch.
"So, we've got a job coming up. I think it's time to fill everyone in on what they're heading into."
Ilana took a bite, and it was wonderful. "Sam, I have no idea what this is, but it's delicious. No offense to Jay, but the food quality has significantly improved since you've joined us."
Ilana took another bite and then continued, "We're running a bounty. She's a real nasty piece of work, and she has her own crew. We don't know much about them other than they will definitely be the shoot first, ask questions later sort of people. The only issue is that we need to take her alive if at all possible. If we can't bring her in alive without losing anyone, then we can't, but we need to make every effort to do so."
She paused a moment and added, "In addition, Jay, along with at least two others, will be staying behind with the ship. This isn't a standard job, and you'd be in a great deal of danger, so I won't force anyone to go into that. Anyone who wants to can stay here."
She took another bite of the tasty grub and went on, "That also means you would dake a significantly smaller portion of the bounty. That doesn't apply to Jay, because he has no choice in whether he stays. We need you alive an uninjured just in case any of us are hurt, and that chance is high." She clearly directed that last part at Jay.
To everyone, she added, "These aren't ballerinas we're going after. They slaughtered an entire brothel, employees and customers alike, as well as three toddlers that were in the nursery, and they'll have no qualms killing us too. If you'd rather stay behind, then stay. I have no doubt we can do this, but I won't force anyone to put their life on the line."
Ilana took a swig of her bourbon and had a few bites, waiting to see what the crew would say.

Jay had been one of the last to enter the galley, save for Ilana. Most of his morning had been spent organizing the med bay, it had gotten a little cluttered and he had developed a habit of making sure it was extra prepared just before a job. Not much had happened since it was used last, so most of the cleaning was just making sure everything was in order. After washing up and changing, he had entered the galley shortly before the captain. And, she came with booze!
Jay collected himself a plate as Ilana spoke, and sat down. He also poured himself a bit of the bourbon, thanking her as he did so. As he sat, Ilana said “Sam, I have no idea what this is, but it's delicious. No offense to Jay, but the food quality has significantly improved since you've joined us."
Jay smiled and nodded in agreement, “None taken!” he said. He began to dig in himself.
Ilana instructed that he would be staying behind with two others. “Great, means I can keep drinking,” he quipped, taking another sip of the bourbon. It was typical for him to stay behind on the more dangerous missions, and after over a year dealing with it, waiting still made him nervous.
When she revealed that the group they were after had murdered an entire brothel, he shivered. He had cued up a couple questions about the job, specifically the amount of people they’d be facing off against. Jay trusted Ilana, but hearing of how many these thugs had already killed he wondered if their crew would be outnumbered. He kept quiet though, waiting to see if anyone else had similar thoughts.

Helios was in his room working out before dinner, while his fish friend bugged him.
"What's the point of constantly pulling yourself up over and over again?" Njord asked confused as Helios sighed and dropped to the ground.
"Helps me think." Helios wiped the sweat off his face with a towel. Helios gave himself a quick smell, Good God did he need a shower. Helios sprayed a little cologne on himself before getting dressed, a tank top that said eat a bag of dicks in seven different languages, a pair of navy blue sweats, and a pair of neon yellow socks instead of his boots.
Helios was about to leave when he decided to take a seat and collect himself. Helios wasn't usually the type to get a cloudy head but he had somethings weighing on him. Helios would continue to push it down and ignore it as he went for the door, can't harm you if I don't think about it he told himself.
Helios left his room a bit late on his way to the galley, he popped in as Jay and Ilana dug into the food. He took a seat furthest away from everyone and got himself a plate of food. He then silently tore through his food.

Rina lounged with her chair tipped back from the table, her elbow planted on the sill of one of the windows that made the galley a favorite spot to hang out. She was deep in a low conversation with the new guy but shut up and paid attention when Ilana started briefing them on the job. Her chair slowly came upright as Ilana continued, and by the time the captain had finished, Rina had pulled up to the table and had planted her elbows on it, looking grim.
"I'm in."
Nothing else. But really, what more was there to say?
Beside her, the new guy nodded his silent assent. It might have been a trick of the light but some sharp observer might have noticed a fleeting look that passed between them. There and gone in a flash and it was like it had never happened.

"Thanks," Sam responded to the praise for her cooking.
Once she was sure everyone had everything they needed for dinner, she started eating her own. Not commenting on the job but paying attention to who said they'd go planet side.
The Captain seemed like a given, Rina not a surprise, there was Rina's friend - Mike. Sam had already surmised he wasn't a bartender. Whatever he actually was, he apparently was going. Sam really didn't think on it that hard.
As for herself, her plan was to remain quiet throughout the meal, she would decide later to tell the Captain or not about her extra skills.

Roman had awoken in a mood. He lounged around his room most of the day before finally deciding to shower. He dressed in very nice, black silk pajama pants, plain white t-shirt, and slip-on tennis shoes and sat on the edge of his bed, still wrapped up in his own thoughts.
A prison of my own making. I suppose I did this to myself, the thought was not a comforting one.
As a companion, Roman had never had trouble concealing his feelings. However, when this had been Savannah, and she was his ship, this would have been his place to let go of those pretenses, but he didn't feel he could do that now. This wasn't Savannah, she wasn't his anymore, and was he even still referring to the ship?
He sighed, silently chiding himself. He didn't know the crew well enough yet to let that façade slip. He closed his eyes, breathed slowly, evenly, deeply… carefully clearing his mind, one thing at a time. When he opened his eyes again, he realized he'd been sitting there, meditating, for over an hour. It was nearly dinner time.
Roman stood and made his way to the galley, sauntering into the room like he owned the place. He chose an air of calm to wear for the evening, made considerably easier by his accidental hour-long meditation. Upon entering the room, the first thing he noticed was the garish button-up shirt (left intentionally unbuttoned) Ilana was wearing.
Because of course she is, he thought with a smirk
"How kind of you to share," Roman said lightly, and poured himself a glass of Ilana's offered bourbon. He made a plate and took a seat, knowing she would most likely be telling everyone about the job she'd picked up. He already knew though, he was with her in the meeting with Aria.
He started eating, and drinking, while she started in, pausing momentarily to gush over the meal. "She isn't wrong," he said, heartily joining the others agreeing with Ilana's sentiment. "Your cooking is phenomenal."
Sam said a quick thanks for the compliments and starting eating, clearly listening, but not commenting on the job. Ilana continued with the job details. She hadn't left anything out, but she'd definitely explained it much more PG than Aria herself had. She ended by explaining that if you stay behind by choice, you would get less pay, which made a sort of sense. Like hazard pay.
Jay would be staying by no choice of his own, as we may have need of a doctor. Rina and Mike both agreed to go with Ilana. They then shared a very quick, but meaningful look. He narrowed his eyes, for the first time considering that they knew each other well, and wondering just what had passed between them just then. There was an unspoken understanding in the furtive glance they shared.
Roman didn't care much about the though. He had plenty of money from his inheritance and his work as a companion, and he wasn't sure he currently had the focus necessary to do a job like that. He'd be more of a danger than a help in his current state of disarray. "I will stay behind to protect the good doctor," he said, grinning at Jay lightheartedly.

There were words of agreement from around the table regarding Sam's cooking as everyone started eating to which Sam thanked everyone - clearly pleased that her cooking was being enjoyed. Ilana gave a nod as Rina agreed to go, the new guy next to her - Mike - nodding his assent as well.
To Jay, she said, "You have some time to get your drink on before we get where we're going."
"I will stay behind to protect the good doctor," he said, grinning at Jay lightheartedly, but Ilana's eyes immediately went to him, looking him over. She knew his last ground run had been really bad, but she didn't realize he would still be averse to going out.
Maybe it's because we'll be on the rim, fairly near reaver territory, she thought, making a mental note to check in with him later. He didn't quite look like himself, and that worried her. Her feelings toward him had varied widely, and often, but she wasn't so angry at him over last night that she couldn’t see something wasn't right with him.
Ilana smirked, not revealing that she'd noticed anything amiss, and said, "I'm sure the two of you will have loads of fun. Just don't let the doctor get the chopsticks out and you might survive it."
She laughed a little, giving Jay a don't kill me grin.
"Coming back around to the job though," she began, speaking now to the group as a whole. "There is one small issue with this job. We don't actually know where this woman and her men are holed up. They hauled ass out of here less than 24 hours ago. Anyone happen to know someone who could track her down in a hurry. I understand these things take time, but fast would definitely be better than slow."

Jace had slid into the galley being lured by the smell of food. He had forgotten to eat all day. He had caught the tail end of Ilana explaining the job. He didn't worry about the details. Big group, very dangerous, try to take her in alive he assumed either way that bounty was theirs. The conversation did peak his interest when she made it clear everyone would be in danger. Leaning against the wall his appetite failing as he glanced around the room. He was used to danger, but the tiny girl they picked up couldn't be much help could she? Rina he hadn't observed her skills either much in combat let alone something this degree. He knew better than to question Ilana's skills and he saw Helios on the Core even if it was stupid he had some skills that was helpful.
Jace breathed a audible sigh of relief as Roman volunteered to stay behind for Jay. He didn't know Roman, but he knew enough that Companions male or female were trained in various forms of self defense. Jace began fiddling with the knives he always kept on him.
"Cap'n I am wherever you need me. Though I would prefer to be in the field instead of bab....staying here." Jace had to catch himself he didn't wish to offend anyone, but he felt himself getting nervous even with some assurance Roman would remain back.

Noticing the glances between Rina and the new guy, who’s name Jay still hadn’t committed to memory, he could see the briefest of looks between them and it sparked a bit of envy in Jay’s heart. He thought back to his night with the man on Omega, wishing it was more than a one-night situation. When Roman mentioned staying behind to protect the doctor, a thought popped into Jays head. Well, he is a companion… no, nevermind. He mentally shooed that thought away.
He lifted his glass in a cheeky toast to Roman, returning the grin, “Perfect, I need it.”
Ilana smirked and said, "I'm sure the two of you will have loads of fun. Just don't let the doctor get the chopsticks out and you might survive it."
“’Ey!” Jay laughed, “I know where you sleep!”
Listening to Ilana talk about the job, this time Jay felt no envy at all. They didn’t even know where the target was? Jay raised his eyebrows and took a sip of bourbon. This was shaping up to be interesting.

Helios looked up as the rest of the crew spoke, he was tired of being cooped up. He poured himself a glass of bourbon before he spoke.
"I'd love to kill something!" The outburst was followed by knocking back the glass. Helios then nodded feeling like he'd contributed, he gave a wave to the others. Njord began to creep down next to Helios's plate and Helios stabbed him with his fork.
"You don't require food you little shit!" Helios shouted, then realized he looked crazy, because only he could see him. Helios sighed and went back to eating while Njord gave off what looked like a smile before flying off.

Rina felt Mike's booted toe nudge hers under the table, a nudge and two taps: What?
She answered three fast taps back: Later.
Everything soft and silent.
Then:
"I'll go check our gear, make sure we have what we need."
Rina rose and took her tablet with her. Mike rose and nodded his respect to Captain and crew before following the engineer. It wasn't long before the ring of Rina's boots on the deck faded to silence but if footsteps could have a mood, hers were: cold and furious.
Mike's made no sound at all.

Run!
"Cap'n I am wherever you need me. Though I would prefer to be in the field instead of bab....staying here," Jace said, jarring her back to herself. He had just barely catching himself before blurting out "babysitting".
Ilana understood the sentiment some days. She nodded at Jace. "Truth be told Jace, I'd prefer to have you at my back," she said.
“’Ey!” Jay laughed at her chopsticks jab, “I know where you sleep!” Ilana laughed, enjoying a brief moment of levity. She took a swig of her bourbon, a light smile on her face.
Then, "I'd love to kill something!" Helios called out happily, downing the whole glass of bourbon at once.
Ilana sighed, And… moment over.
He waved at them as though they weren't sitting at the same dinner table. Ilana raised a brow, wondering if he wasn't already drunk.
Helios stabbed the table with his fork and shouted, "You don't require food you little shit!"
Yep, he's drunk, Ilana thought, rolling her eyes. She pinched the bridge of her nose. Something in the back of her mind was niggling. She just couldn't quite put her finger on what it was. I hope Jace realizes we're going to be babysitting either way, she thought.
"I'll go check our gear, make sure we have what we need," Rina said, quickly exiting the room. Mike followed Rina out.
Ilana leaned back in her chair, somewhat confused by their hasty exit, more than somewhat confused about Helios's… whatever that was. Then the memory came to her. The doctor from Anastasia's group… Dr. Kim had said Helios was experiencing a residual hallucination. He was unsure of how long it might last. She supposed his outburst just now was likely a result of the residual hallucination.
She found herself wondering if he was safe to have on a job like this for a moment. She made a mental note to have a talk with him before committing to letting him go with them. She lifted her bourbon and said, "Welcome to the madhouse."
She took another swig.

Sam just sat there quietly eating and taking in those around the table. They almost but not spoken babysitting comment by Jace, wasn't missed by Sam. Helios was stabbing and taking to... what? Huh? The Captain and doctor exchanged inside joke, Sam was not privy to and didn't ask. The girl had switched jobs so much, she was more than used to that happening. If they chose or not chose to explain it, it was their call. Sam wasn't waiting on it. Rina and Mike left, it though sounded like only one person was waking away from the galley. Stealthy? Well, at least dinner wasn't boring.

"Truth be told Jace, I'd prefer to have you at my back," Ilana said.
Jace simply nodded, "I will make sure my gear is suited for this." He wore a slight grin at the chopstick joke, but he leaned over towards Jay and quietly slid one of his pistols into the medics lap attempting to be quiet with the exchange. Jace looked up at the jovial odd man exclaiming about wanting to kill something. Jace began to boil silently until Helios struck the table.
"You don't require food you little shit!" Helios declared.
"Ah, ta ma de." Jace muttered. Jace nodded towards the Cap'n and left the room heading towards his bunk. He passed by Sam and looked her over and he wondered if he upset her with his comment. Just something else he had to worry about being mean to the new crew when he didn't mean to. Jace shrugged as he began to focus on his mental check list, he would have to address it later. He knew nothing would get them in the black, well almost nothing except Alliance for the most part, but he didn't want to get his gear ready while on land he wanted it ready for departure as soon as they touched ground. Someone this dangerous was bound to have a small army at her back and if she is in a fixed location, the locals support to add to it. Not a party he wanted to stick around for long. In his head he was making evaluations already.
Ilana solid, Helios....christ, Mike he didn't know nor trust, and Rina welp hope she can hold her own but he wasn't sure. It was times like this he would remember Ray and Marcus. Two solid fighters, with the muscle he lacked. Maybe he could suggest Ilana add some workout and higher potent protein stuffs for him.
ta ma de - fuck

The laugh he shared with Ilana was quickly interrupted by Jace slipping something into his lap, making a shiver run up his back. He put his hand over it to feel a pistol. He shot Jace a thankful glance, and slipped it into his pocket. Will be helpful for later. Then Helios started yelling, making Jay jump. He wondered if Jace slipped him the pistol to shoot at Helios and shut him up – good timing too, Jay could feel the heat of Jace’s frustration come off him in waves. As Jace got up to leave, Jay gave him a comforting pat on the shoulder.
Jay raised an eyebrow and looked at Helios, “You good, buddy?” he asked.
Jay watched Rina and the new guy (Again, gotta get his name!) run out hastily. Another envious ping. Jay sipped his bourbon, swallowing it down.

Helios could feel the eyes on him after his outburst, he cursed under his breath as the crew at table talked. Helios felt crazy, more than normal, the hallucination was something he could usually keep from bothering him with other people around. He noticed some of the crew leaving the table and was about to do the same to escape this awkward mess when Jay spoke to him.
"You good buddy?" Jay asked and Helios laughed out loud, it was mixed of happy and sad.
"Screws are falling out of me, but I should have enough left." He responded, he hoped that was true.

"Screws are falling out of me, but I should have enough left." He responded, he hoped that was true.
“That… makes sense,” Jay said, unconvincingly. He glanced toward the captain, a clear look of concern or annoyance on his face. Something about that kid had been off since the mushroom incident – well, more off than usual. What Jay viewed as typically an extravagant and unmatched aesthetic has seeped into a wreckless personality making for a very unsettling cocktail.

Jace cursed under his breath, gave Ilana a nod, and left the room following Helios's outburst. Helios followed Jace's lead, cursing under his breath, seeming to realize his outburst had actually been out loud. He looked around at the faces still sitting at the table. "You good buddy?" Jay asked and Helios laughed out loud. It was an oddly melancholy sound.
"Screws are falling out of me, but I should have enough left," Helios replied, raising Ilana's alarm a bit more.
“That… makes sense,” Jay said, clearly not convinced. He glanced toward Ilana, concern written all over his face.
She gave Jay a look that clearly said be careful. She looked back to Helios, eyeing him carefully for a moment. He looked healthy, but there was something about the way his eyes darted around the room, seeing things they couldn't, hearing things they didn't hear, that she found more than a little unsettling.
"Helios… When you finish up with dinner, can we have a chat? I've got a few things regarding the upcoming job that I'd like to discuss," she said carefully, trying to be diplomatic, but sounding more on the uncertain side.

"That... makes sense." Jay said unconvincingly, Helios didn't blame him that explanation sounded mad, but it was the only one he had.
"Helios… When you finish up with dinner, can we have a chat? I've got a few things regarding the upcoming job that I'd like to discuss," The captain said shortly after, most likely do to his chat with Jay.
"I'll be in my bunk." Helios grumbled out, not looking forward to the conversation. He finished up his meal and head off to his room to tinker with his stuff.

Roman ignored Ilana's concern and ate his dinner in silence, listening to the others' conversations, watching their interactions with one another. They had a good rapport, this crew. At least he'd been in relative peace here, not subjected to constant fighting. The crew here has only fired shots at each other once, he thought.
Jace offered to accompany Ilana to Roman's relief. He didn't know the man well, but he knew Ilana trusted him to have her back, and she didn't trust easy. That was likely his fault. He didn't miss Jace's referring to staying behind as babysitting, despite the man catching himself before finishing the sentence. Jay didn't seem upset by the prospect of staying behind, though he did seem somewhat tense overall.
"I'd love to kill something!" Helios called, immediately having Roman's full attention. "You don't require food you little shit!" He shouted, seemed to notice there were others in the room, and smiled, reminding Roman very much of a shark.
That's… concerning, Roman thought.
Mike and Rina left the table, punctuated by the angry staccato of Rina's boots. Curiously, hers were the only footsteps to be heard. The average bartender doesn't move in complete silence, he thought, making a mental note to ask Ilana exactly what she knew about this man. Ilana lifted her bourbon and said, "Welcome to the madhouse."
She took another swig. Jace seemed to get angry at the outburst from Helios and stalked away from the table cursing under his breath. Jay raised an eyebrow and looked at Helios, “You good, buddy?” he asked.
"Screws are falling out of me, but I should have enough left." He responded, looking both hopeful and fearful at the same time, which only served to raise Roman's sense of alarm.
“That… makes sense,” Jay said. Roman didn't even think the doctor managed to convince himself with that one. He certainly wasn't fooling anyone else. He glanced toward Ilana, concern evident.
She returned Jay's glance with one that clearly said be careful. She looked back to Helios, eyeing him carefully for a moment. "Helios… When you finish up with dinner, can we have a chat? I've got a few things regarding the upcoming job that I'd like to discuss," she said carefully.
"I'll be in my bunk." Helios grumbled out, not looking forward to the conversation. He finished up his meal and head off to his room to tinker with his stuff.
Roman looked a question at Ilana, eyebrows raised, Do you want me to accompany you? She shook her head no almost imperceptibly. Roman said, "On that note, I believe I will retire for the evening. I'm not feeling well."
Roman stood, nodded respectfully to the few still remaining at the table, and said, "Have a lovely evening."
