Job Description Cortex Relay Station Caretaker
Talents Mr. Dishes is amazing one it comes to tracking transmissions, and coding. He is a wonderful technician and engineer. He knows how to hook many things onto both small terminals, as well as freighters which stop by. He’s very smart and good with calculations.
Flaws Mr. Dishes is incredibly paranoid, in ways that often make people uncomfortable to be around him. He believes in a great number of conspiracies which revolve around the universe. He is a very isolated person, which has caused him to, in many ways, lose his mind. He’s often times hard to deal with if you don’t know him very well. He believes paranormal things as well, most specifically alien life forms.
History: Mr. Dishes was born on Londinium as Patric Hammand. He was a very bright young child and went to school on Sihnon. He was taught to be very skilled with technical information. As a result he was able to get a job on a Cortex Relay Station when he was only 25. Typically this job was taken in shifts, where you’d have several people monitoring it, on shifts of roughly 3 weeks, and then the next team would come in, while the other took a break. Patric was very good at handling this sort of thing. But over time, the company which owned the station began losing money, and had to downsize staff and shift breaks. It drifted down to a full time resident of the station, and the only one willing to do the job was Patric, so he was given the needed supplies and continued to monitor it. Slowly he began to succumb to the various mental troubles which were caused by such isolation. He had the ability to leave, he had a small ship, but he never did. When a company executive came to inspect the station, Patric had fashioned himself a suit, with lots of equipment all over it, specifically satellite dishes. He believed that it was going to allow him to intercept hidden signals, which were coming from beyond the known space. The executive was very much taken back by Patric, and in his report referred to Patric as “Mr. Dishes”. Patric intercepted the report, and grappled tight to it in his mind. He doesn’t go by his real name anymore, believing that he is “Mr. Dishes”. Because of his abilities and record with the company, he was still kept on the station. In 2505 his time on the station began to change. Just before the war began he was contacted by some of the Independents looking to utilize him for the future war effort. Mr. Dishes had almost no interest or concern about what was going on in the war, which ironic, since he knew so much about it. He did agree to do it however, and spent much of the war tracking and cracking signals and handing them off to the Independents. The Independents disabled his tracking signal, making it seem as though his station was destroyed, as well as rigging his system with a black box so that they could deal with him, without being intercepted. Mr. Dishes didn’t take almost any note of the war or what he was doing for the Independents for it’s duration. When it ended, he hardly noticed. But when the war ended it was rather up in the air about how Mr. Dishes would be able to survive. Fortunately he was approached by a man named Longstreet, who offered to continue sending him his supplies and allowing him to stay on the station in exchange for him extending his services to Longstreets operations. Mr. Dishes didn’t have any real issue with this, and signed on. He would be periodically called on to hack a signal or get in deep towards something, which he’s had a lot of experience and training for. So Dishes sits and monitors the station, and gets a shipment of supplies every 6 months. He receives visitors every now and then, which are all Longstreets people, but for the most part his contact is only through the cortex. He’s personalized the station very much so. It has plants, and sun lights, and has a very homely sort of feel to it. Mr. Dishes hasn’t left the station however in over 40 years, and the universe beyond to him isn’t much more then something he’s seen on a cortex screen. His station just remains on the outer ring of the known verse', closest to the Kalidasa system. Aptly renamed the 'Fuse Box', it sits in one of the largest and most expansive regions of space, with Mr. Dishes living alone on it.
