General Skills:
- Business Management – Chappel is very gifted when it comes to making decisions of a financial nature. He’s been in control of a large enterprise for quite some time, and because of this he’s very astute in terms of running a business.
- Information Broker – Chappel keeps his ears open at all times. Rumors fly through the verse’ at incredible speed, and if you know where to find them, and are able to piece together little pieces of information as they come in, you might just be able to make a big picture of solid facts. And Chappel is very gifted in seeing the big picture, and handing the information off to people would be interested in it.
Talents: Chappel is one of the most friendly, and light hearted spirits you will ever meet. And because of this, he has a great ability to make friends, allies, and business partners. He doesn’t command much out of people who are beneath him, and isn’t one much for discipline. And as a result those who work for him, tend to like him very much. And Chappel is never one to turn someone away who is need of work, especially if it is someone who he knows. On a side note, he speaks French fluently, which comes in handy when talking to some of his subordinates. He has an incredible memory, as he was raised by people from a different time, and believes more in the personal contact and conduct, then speaking over great distances using the cortex, and forgetting whatever was said as many tend to do.
Flaws: Chappel’s knack for a friendly air tends to put him on a very neutral stance. He doesn’t tend to play favorites with anything, mainly just hands things to who gets there first. So at times he has let loose information which has gotten friends killed, though it was completely unintentional. Chappel does not hold a grudge against anyone, but tends to hold his nose up at certain people who will play themselves off as better then him. In some part of his subconscious Chappel considers himself to be above other people, and has a distaste for people that consider themselves above him, though he hides it very well. He also speaks with a very heavy French accent, which makes him very difficult to understand at times.
History: Chappel was born into a decent bit of wealth on the Alliance homeworld of Londinium. His father held the position of “Deacon of Art” at the Londinium Museum. It was a considerably well paying position, and one of decent stature as he oversaw the presentation of displays in the “Museum of Art” section. Chappel was the third youngest child of four. As his name suggests, he’s of deep French decent. A point of pride is, they’re family is believed to be descendents of French royalty, however they have no hard proof of this other then what’s been passed on from generation to generation. Chappel himself was very well educated, and unlike his siblings, he didn’t take quite the interest in history and art that they did. While he did learn quite a lot about the history and culture of mankind, he did have quite a free spirit. He was often moving about in his younger year, getting into bits of trouble here and there. But when he was 13 years old his father got an offer from a friend. His fathers friend had just finished having a Space Station constructed between the Central Planets and the Georgia System, offered him the position of management of the large transfer port. The job itself had substantially higher pay then his current position, but would be a very strong change in environment. After giving it a bit of thought, his father seized the opportunity, and Chappel’s family moved to the newly constructed station.
It was a state of the art transfer port, where all sorts of goods would be shipped through and traded, as well as acting as a re-supply stop for many vessels traveling between the Georgia System and the Central Planets. Chappel took a very good liking to the life on the space station and loved to see all the marvelous people which came through, as well as hear about all their stories. He came to love the culture which passed through the station, as well as the interesting things it’s more permanent residents had to offer. His father took very well to managing the affairs of the station, ensuring that business flowed on schedule, and was a great money maker for his friend. But after managing the station for 21 years, his friend grew very sick. He had no children to speak of, and no real family. So when he died, he gave over ownership of the station to Chappel’s father. While deeply grieved by the fact his friend had died, he decided to keep on with the work. He changed the name of station to Le Socle. His father continued to manage the station, which he now owned. Chappel’s siblings had all gone off to other things, his oldest brother joining the Navy, his older sister marrying a wealthy man on Sihnon, and his younger sister also going on to follow a career at the Museum of Art their father used to work in. But at 34 years old, unlike all the others, Chappel had decided to stay on the station, to learn to manage it as his father did. He learned all there was to know about keeping track of important shipments, keeping the station stocked, security, employment, and everything else one might need to know to keep such a business afloat.
His father grew ill several years later, at the age of 72. A disease he’d been rather secretive about which he’d had since he was very young began creeping in him. And as he realized he was coming upon the end of his life, he named Chappel his successor. Chappel’s father died at age 73, when Chappel himself was 37. He was very sad when his father died, but knew he had to continue the business. And so Chappel took over the management of Le Socle. Though his father had died, it was as though nothing had changed. Chappel did implement a bit of French culture into the station, something his father had tried to do in his later years, but never failed to complete. And as the years went on Chappel became very good at what he did. He came to understand that criminals often came to seek refuge in such a place like this, but wasn’t very judgmental about their presence. Everyone had a place in the verse’, even thieves, and over time Chappel even learned to embrace their business, in turn making himself more money. When the Unification War came about, Chappel did not feel any need to take sides. It was an issue that just didn’t bother him, and he knew getting involved would just mean pain for him. So he avoided it altogether, and whatever came through his station, wasn’t entirely in his control.
Since the war ended, Chappel has made quite a name for himself as a man who knows things that were intended to be kept secret. He keeps up with many rumors, and is somewhat known as a friend of thieves and pirates. But such a thing doesn’t bother Chappel, as he knows what he is. Live and let live is a great motto for which he lives his life. He is a man of great wealth and culture, and such a thing is not likely to change.
