History: Guy was born in a slum on Persephone to Trey Hughes and Melissa Abbott. Trey was a locksmith like his father before him and Melissa was a jobless addict. Due to her incoherent ramblings and insane actions, Trey decided to eliminate her from Guy’s life. A restraining order was put on her and despite her many death threats she was almost completely missing for most of Guy’s childhood. Melissa only showed up twice after that, once when Guy was nine and the other time when he was twelve. Both visits consisted of requests for money and to see her child, both of which she was denied. Guy grew up feeling indifferent towards his mother, trying his best not to think about her. His father taught him a few things as he grew up and tried his best to teach his son the value of life. He wanted his son to seize the universe so he could make his own future.
Guy was an eccentric child, always spouting some incomprehensible gibberish or dancing in public. He didn’t get in much trouble when he was a kid but when he was twelve, he and his friends started to go down a very familiar path. They started to shoplift from various stores in their neighborhood and selling what they took at their school. It started with simple things like food and soft drinks but the money eventually wasn’t good enough. They started to steal electronics regularly from a local establishment. After several months of hitting the same store they were confronted by the shopkeeper and a police officer. The officer tried to scare Guy and his friends straight but it only affected two of them. When they were fourteen, Guy and his remaining friends started to break into cars and stealing whatever was worth anything. Guy’s friends knew that his uncle Yuri was a criminal who was adept at breaking into safes, so they suggested that Guy should get closer to him. Uncle Yuri was willing to teach Guy what he knew. His belief was that it was inevitable that Guy would turn to this lifestyle, so he should give him the tools he needs to excel. Guy had been close to his cousin Bree since they were children, being the same age and going to the same schools, so the only change was that Guy was talking to her Father much more frequently. They started to ditch class more and more frequently and eventually stopped going entirely. Guy’s circle of friends started to grow smaller with some moving towards selling drugs and others just moving to different areas. As his number of friends decreased Guy got more reckless. He started breaking into people’s houses when he was seventeen and stealing whatever he could get his hands on.
Guy eventually realized that because he was stealing from other impoverished people, he wasn’t going to earn much money. The upper class cities weren’t far from Guy’s slum and its ritzy glow called to him. Just one ring from one of their jewelry boxes would come a long way in his slum and Guy began salivating thinking of the cash he could bring in. Guy decided to enroll in college courses on instillation and maintenance of security systems, aware that such things would be an issue if he was going to hit rich people’s homes. He already knew enough about key and electronic locks from his father so getting in wouldn’t be an issue. With misguided determination, Guy managed to pass the class and he dropped out of college right after with no intention of going back.
With new knowledge and confidence, Guy drove to a more swanky part of the planet and looked for a good place to burglarize. He found a nice apartment complex that was no doubt filled with rich lawyers and doctors who either don’t have wives, husbands, children or pets. He decided to look for an apartment with only one inhabitant so he wouldn’t have to worry about interference from a family. Guy decided on apartment no. 14. A lone man in his late forties lived in there and he seemed like a joyless individual. Guy stacked the building out for only three days, believing that that would be enough to get the man’s schedule down. On the fourth day Guy broke into the security monitor room during the monitor guard’s lunch break. Guy made the camera monitoring the third floor, where apartment no. 14 was, go in a six hour loop of a recording a few days earlier. The next night, Guy went into action alone. He didn’t tell any of his friends about this because he knew they would want a piece of the pie that he wasn’t willing to share. At ten P.M. Guy went into the building and went up to the third floor. When he reached no. 14 he pulled out a device that was the size of his hand and stood in front of the door. The lock was a holographic key pad but the device Guy had would make getting through it simple. Once it was hooked up to the lock, it would display the code on the device, allowing you to punch it in and enter without a hassle. The device was typically used by custodial workers so they wouldn’t need to carry a large amount of keys or memorize several codes. Guy opened the door and waltzed in, ready to plunder. After a few minutes of searching, Guy found the man’s safe in his bedroom. He opened it up and was paralyzed at the sight of the riches inside, jewelry and more cash than he’d seen in his whole life. As he stuffed the valuables in his bag, the man returned home earlier than expected and watched as Guy shoveling his things in a sling bag. The man yelled, worriedly “What the hell are you doing?!” This caused Guy to jump and turn to face the man he was robbing. There was a long silence that was broken by Guy throwing a nearby pillow at the man. Panicked, Guy dashed for the door, throwing the man to the side and running out of the apartment. Unaware of where the stairs were, Guy was forced to go for the elevator. Once he reached it he tried to catch his breath. Unfortunately for Guy, the security officer monitoring the cameras noticed that the second floor cameras were on a loop and fixed the problem. The security guard watched Guy break into the apartment, run out minutes later in a panic and enter the elevator. Before Guy could reach the first floor the elevator stopped and he was trapped.
The police came, arrested Guy and his father wasn’t very proud. He was charged with the tampering of security equipment, breaking and entering and grand larceny. Guy was sentenced to five years imprisonment in a Renao penitentiary. The prison was in the middle of an ocean, civilization only inhabiting memories. Prison wasn’t Guy’s favorite habitat and he tried his best just to survive. It was in prison that Guy was introduced to a drug the inmates called Silk, a narcotic that you can either smoke or inject. Guy used Silk to help control his fear of being killed in prison and kept his depression in check. Extensive use of the drug had left Guy jittery and unstable. Guy wasn’t in many fights, he just received a beating regularly but luckily for him, sharp objects were rarely involved.
Three years into his sentence Guy was let out on parole and sent back to Persephone. Once he got back, his parole officer sent him to live in a halfway house and told him to get a job. Guy worked in retail for almost no pay and went to his room defeated and tired. It was better than prison but Guy still wanted complete freedom. For five months Guy worked at those docks, waiting for his parole to end. He tried to quit using Silk, but he fell off the wagon several times. The unification war was going on during this time and after five months of working a riot broke out. Guy used this riot as an opportunity to get out this life he hated. During the riot, panicked owners of transport ships fled in fear of their lives. Guy approached one before takeoff and paid his way on, breaking parole by leaving the planet. The ship landed on Valentine and Guy decided to try and start fresh, free of drugs and halfway homes. Hating the life of a working man, Guy knew that he needed to get back to the business he was in three years ago. Because the Unification War had been going on, Guy sometimes targeted Alliance soldiers being shipped out or on leave. Guy would sit in bordellos, waiting for a soldier to go in a room with a girl and once he left, he would steal the soldier’s bag. Usually Guy just robbed houses, now preparing himself more before he did. He robbed any kind of house, rich or poor. Sometimes he would work with others and those jobs typically went smoother. Guy began to learn more and more and eventually became quite skilled in what he did.
When the Unification War ended Guy returned to Persephone and went back to his father’s home. His Father hated the life Guy made for himself but he still loved his son and was happy to see him after seven years. Guy stayed with his father for three months before moving out. Guy currently lives in a tiny apartment with his Cousin Bree on Persephone and continues to rob people to pay his own bills. For the past few months he’s been accompanied by a travelling Buddhist monk and the two of them have garnered a small reputation as The Buddhist and the Burglar, a name they did not choose themselves.
