Were you in the Military? Yes, Alliance Navy, 2496 to Present
Gifts: N/A
Talents/Skills: Richter is a very skilled tactician. He has great situational awareness, and has a lot of experience in leading men. He’s also a very good shot with a pistol, but is also proficient with a rifle. He also has the ability to fly a great number of Alliance craft. He can even man the helm of a cruiser. He has a lot of knowledge about the workings of Alliance equipment, especially that of Naval Vessels.
Flaws: Richter has had a habit of taking over too much responsibility. He does not supersede his authority, and gets permission before he does anything that is questionable. He will at times follow up on things that he finds to be his duty, even if there are other people in the area that could take of the job for him. He opts for ensuring that the entirety of a mission is completed rather then leaving it for others, but will not continue if he is given orders not to. He can get a bit reckless under pressure however, and his need to take a hands-on approach causes him to doubt the capabilities of his men at times.
Personality Traits: Richter could be described as having a loyal sternness. He is a considerably serious person, and has a dutiful streak. If he does make a joke it won’t be one that’s very hysterical. He shows a reluctance for changing assignments, as it tends to feel there is more he could do wherever he was before. He has a strong mind for rank. He recognizes his betters, and he recognizes his lowers. His command leaves him frequently dealing with the public, namely that of the losing side of the war. This has allowed him to know how to deal with them, in a way that they would respect his authority, but not feel overwhelmed. At the end of the day, his loyalty is to the Alliance, and he does not disobey the orders given to him by his superiors. He speaks with a distinct German accent.
History: Johan was born on Albion to Paul and Lara Richter. He was their first born child. His father was a lawyer, and his mother was a historical researcher. They lived in a fairly large house, in a somewhat large city. The city had a very large population of people who were of German dissent. As a result, Johan was first taught to speak German, and later learned English and Chinese whilst he was in school. He was a playful youth, and had many friends. He did well in his studies, and was fairly athletic. Growing up as a child of means was easy, and he had a very happy childhood.
When he was eighteen he began to pursue higher education, and was trying to figure out what sort of career he wanted to have. He had a very large amount of options, and could do just about anything he wanted to. He didn’t give it a great deal of thought until he was nineteen and thought about signing up for the Navy. He liked the idea of seeing exotic worlds, and the stars, so it seemed like a good idea. His father wasn’t opposed to the decision, but he convinced him to go into the service as an officer if he was going to. At age twenty Johan was on his way to the Alliance Naval Academy.
Life in the Naval Academy wasn’t very difficult. It was a lot like how Johan’s life had been prior. It was a lot of study, and required dedication, which he had no trouble giving. He took an emphasis on the operation of large vessels. He learned a lot about how to operate them, and the various systems. He was no technician, and learned only some minor things about how to work with wiring. He did however know how to operate most Alliance Vessel systems. After two years in the Academy, he had the rank of Ensign and was an officer on an Alliance cruiser.
Over the years Johan showed extraordinary prowess when it came to leading men under his command, and he rose through the ranks. Within six years he had achieved the rank of Lieutenant and was serving as the executive officer of an Ocula-Class Corvette. Johan continued to show off his abilities, and had several commendations. In 2505 Johan received the promotion to Lieutenant Commander, and was placed in command of a Trebuchet Battle Cruiser.
When the Unification War began, Johan did not second guess his allegiance to the Alliance even for a moment. The Union of Allied Planets was attempting to bring order and law to the entirety of the verse’, and help make all the planets like those in the Core. The belligerent Independents however refused to accept it, and wished to continue being a burden on the whole of humanity. Johan’s Trebuchet was placed in the 81st Action Battlegroup, and it moved out to battle in the border.
Over the course of the first year Johan saw a great deal of battle. His ship saw battle with the Independents Navy almost on a weekly basis. They defeated the Independents in all of the engagements, being fortunate in not seeing any major battles and outgunning the Independents every time. By 2509 the war was taking a real toll on the verse’, but Johan continued to do his duty. He was a part of a blockade that was placed over Aberdeen for a month, and saw a major engagement at a space station in the Georgia System. In this time he met Kayla Barnes, during a party on Rubicon. After courting for a year, they were married on Osirus.
In 2510 Johan’s battlegroup found itself in a bad situation. When patrolling one of the moons of Oberon, the battlegroup was ambushed by a missile attack. It crippled on of the three ships, and suddenly a group of boarding craft appeared while a battleship began to engage them from afar. The boarding parties were quite devastating, and the Independents managed to gain control of the second ship. Johans ship had it’s systems badly damaged, and the man at the helm was killed by one of the boarding parties. Johan fought in the halls, and was shot in the arm in the process. In spite of the hopeless battle and the consensus being to abandon ship, Johan took control of the helm, and flew the ship away from the battle zone. His arm was repaired, and they managed to make it back to Alliance controlled space.
His vessel was so badly damaged it would take months to repair, and the rest of the battlegroup had been lost. In spite of this, for his proven ability as a leader, and his acts of bravery and valor, Johan was awarded the rank of Commander. With this rank he was placed on a Longbow Patrol-Cruiser, the Desman, and given command of his own battlegroup. Not long after this Kayla was pregnant with their first child, Clarice.
He spent the last year of the war hitting what was left of the Independents Navy, and transporting soldiers to various battle zones. The Independents by this point were mainly just attacking with light and fast attacks, but The Alliance Navy had gained enough experience with how to deal with them, they had almost no effect. In the end, the Independents were crushed by the overbearing might of the Alliance.
With the war over, Johan was placed in charge of patrolling various sectors and inspecting suspicious cargo vessels. In the first year of the war, there was still insurgents that would cause trouble, but Johan’s battlegroup was very capable at dealing with the problems. By 2513, there was no real resistance as far as Johan was concerned, and now it was a matter of just doing as the Alliance had promised and bringing order to the lawless lands. In the same year Kayla had their second child, Frank.
The Border and Rim worlds had many people that didn’t like them, and were quite a handful. Johan was being called to settle disputes of just about every kind. Johan’s hands-on nature made him handle most of these things personally. In the ground and in space, he proved himself as a very capable tool for the reconstruction effort.
Johan still maintains his position of Commander, and has proven himself as a very strong asset for the Navy in meeting its present needs. He patrols various sectors and attempts to do all that he can to fulfill his duty as a Commander in the Alliance Navy.
Aspirations: To do his duty to the Alliance as best he can.
Misc.: N/A
Connections: Various Alliance officials, officers, and civilians.
Dirty Little Secrets: Johan has an innate lack of trust in the abilities of those on his ship. He always thinks that he can do a better job, and if he is able to he will. He trusts them as people, but he never mentions that he feels the skills of those below him are always lacking.
Character Concept: A devoted Alliance Commander who is devoted to the Alliance cause.

Johan sat in a chair in his quarters looking at the screen that was on the wall across from him. He had his hands folded and resting on his stomach. His face showed a sort of smirk, and he shook his head. He looked up to the ceiling and back at the screen. On it there was the picture of a woman, about the same age as him with brown hair. She was in a house where the sun was shining through the windows.
”I have been.” Johan started, with his German accent as clear as ever. He pronounced his words perfectly, but the accent was still very distinct. ”Travelling the stars for, eighteen years now, and I have never seen anything that gave me reason to believe that anything like Reavers” Johan made his eyes jump the mention of the absurd word. ”exist.” Johan finished with a smile. ”Trust me Kayla, we’re perfectly safe.” He chuckled a bit as he said it.
“Alright, I believe you.” The woman answered. “They’ve just been saying a lot of things on the cortex about how it was Reavers.”
Johan shook his head again. ”You can’t trust everything that’s said on the cortex. Especially not things about out here.”
“COMMANDER, YOU’RE NEEDED ON THE BRIDGE” a voice called throughout Johan’s quarters.
Johan gave a sigh, and hit a button on his desk. ”On my way.’ He then looked back up at the screen.
The woman gave a half smile, but she knew what it meant. Johan opened his mouth and spoke once more. ”I have to go, give the children my love.” Johan requested.
The woman nodded. “Of course.” She replied. “Good luck.” She said, as she frequently did when Johan was called away in the middle of one of their calls.
”I shouldn’t, we haven’t had any reports of Reavers” Johan replied with his closed mouth smile, emphasizing that he was mocking her
Kayla shook her head. “Would you just go.” She replied chuckling.
Johan stood up. ”Bye.” he said softly.
Kayla did echoed the response, and the call was suddenly ended.
Johan the straightened up his uniform, and then proceeded out of his quarters.
