He was one of only a handful that voted against going to war. He has since tried to do what he could to support the troubles of those on the war torn border worlds and the rim, representing many of their interests in Parliament. He is well liked by many, but has many political adversaries who will constantly attack his faults. He’s one of the longest serving, and oldest members of parliament. He is also known to have some health issues.
History: Reginald was the first born child of Lord Bernard Marleque. Bernard was wealthy, and had a number of mistresses. Reginald however being the first of his three children, was very well tended to. He was expected to become something of value to the total society, and was given a rather expensive education. It covered a very wide variety of subjects. Reginald wasn’t anything special in regards to academics, but he was still very smart. The education he received open many doors, and his fathers wealth would take him there. However he was expected to be something rather prestigious. Reginalds father had many friends, and their children were Reginalds friends. One of his fathers friends was a regional Governor who introduced Reginald to the world of politics. Reginald delved rather well into it, and his father arranged to have him to learn underneath him about the workings of Government. His father had the idea that his son might become a regional Governor himself.
His mentor, Ki’huu Ye, was a regional Governor on Persephone. It was rather far away from his home, but him right between the border and the deep central planets. He understood that things beyond the central planets were very different. Life was difficult, and Governor Ye was responsible for some of the more serious actions and support given to many Border Worlds. Bernard grew to become Ye’s assistant, and he caught an eye for Ye’s daughter, Ji’su. As they grew up together, it was no surprise that he would eventually ask to marry her. In an expensive ceremony, it finally happened.
When he was 35 years old, Bernard decided that he would himself enter the political realm. He made a bid to become a member of Parliament. With his fathers and Ye’s support he joined the Parliament on Londinium in 2463. He took it rather slow at the beginning, coming to understand how things were. He attached himself to some circles, and was liked by quite a few, but wasn’t known for making much noise. He didn’t speak, he didn’t try to convince anyone of anything. He would vote, and attend functions. However this would change several years later. Someone sent him a letter regarding the deteriorating condition of a town built in a project by the Parliament. The people were hungry, sick, and in desperate need of aid. The images shook him immensely. He immediately made an appeal to speak, and many were surprised to see him do it for the first time. He spoke very well, with passion and a great argument. In spite of this, many were against his proposals, but he made friends with groups trying to help the border worlds and rim. Within several months of pushing this however, he did get help to that project, and was recognized as helpful voice for the poor people of the rim.
Over the years, he and Ji’su had several children, and his father died. He went from being a follower of his group in parliament to a leader. His political circles were those that were supporting of the blights of the rim. This would ironically put them at odds with those support the blights of the common man on the rim. They just didn’t believe that as many resources should go to the opposing view. But this battle would go on year after year. Eventually his children would have children, and he was seen as a respectable and recognized figure everywhere he went. Unfortunately this began to change as their was a large push to Unify all of the planets within the Alliance. Reginald liked the idea only because they could directly help the people, but didn’t want to force them into it. As a result he voted against the war, though nothing came of it. Though he wasn’t popular for his vote, he kept his seat because he’d also would support military funding initiatives. He only did this though, because at the time it was the only way to get help to the mass amounts of refugees and people who were being devastated by the war. As the military would occupy new territory, they would begin rebuilding and bringing order back to the regions. It was the best thing for it he thought.
After the war ended, he deeply struck by the death toll and tactics both sides had utilized. He began trying to support rebuilding and supporting the damaged areas immediately, speaking often to have support increased. But many wanted to punish the former Independent Worlds. He wanted to try to bring them back up as soon as possible. He made a rather highly publicized visits to some of the wars most infamous locations, such as Serenity Valley, and the surface of Shadow. It was a helpful element to the people that wanted to increase the funding to their side of the argument, and it did so. These things have had him aptly named, Regi-Rimkin, and Tu Yìzhang (Speaker of the Dirt).
Today Reginald is still a member of Parliament, though he is coming on the end of his years. He has a bad heart condition, which he’d inherited from his father. His father hadn’t taken the prosthetic well, and died from it. Reginald as a result doesn’t trust many of the operations, and wants to live out the rest of his life in a natural sort of way. He is still devoting the rest of his life to do as much good for the people that need it most, and will likely continue his work till the day he dies.
Aspirations:[/b] To assist the people on the border and rim worlds as much as he can. To see them back to prosperity is a dream he wishes to see, but hopes that perhaps his children will see it for him.
Connections:[/b] Many likeminded people who want to support the Border and Rim Worlds idolize him as a person. He also has made contact with a number of the former Independents, feeling they could give him an accurate perspective of the worlds conditions, as well as his respect for their willingness to fight for their belief.
He is however rather disliked amongst those that want to punish the rim and border worlds, and others who gave a great amount of support for the forced Unification, as well as those who’s political agendas are more ‘domestic’.
